2-23-2025: MY INSPO: parodies, punks, and pop icons

Image
my homework was due. bestie nicole asked for tiktoker  libby mae  to be mentioned in the blog. you asked so you shall receive.       the internet is dangerous, and we are such deceptive and decepted creatures. my initial reaction was: "this girl has some  kind of style" and just dismissed it as british   chavism . then sib concluded, no, this has to be a parody. which makes sense because if you scroll long enough, you'll notice the inconsistencies of some videos being very aesthetic, or videos with queer jokes, then she'll wear one of her very unique fits, and talk about her boyfriend.  as a challenge, i saves some looks i thought were very interesting to analyze, then some looks i saved in order to see how i would style them myself. nicole -  i hope you like this segment.  to clarify, libby mae does an excellent job color coordinating, and explaining why she chose whatever on earth she chose. im just rehe...

2-23-2025: MY FAVES: boycott digitalization! boycott cinema terrorism!

Image
music of the week      sib and i found some old cd's, which my aunt's husband at the time left us (back in 2011), filled with remixes, mashups, and insane dj sets and bootlegs from the european club scene of the time. think eurotrash but on poppers. as i am typing this, i am listening to a katy perry TGIF remix. this was what clubbing is supposed to sound like. my homework is to find as many of these songs on spotify (i tried to find some and this katy perry one, for example, is not found). perhaps we should bring back forgotten media like cd's vinyls, ipods etc... god, i miss my mp4... some songs i saved that i did  find on spotify were: we are the people (wawa club remix) - empire of the sun senorita - inna  miami 2 ibiza - swedish house mafia vs tinie tempah  take over control - afrojack ft eva simons letting go (dutty love) - sean kingston ft nicki minaj     speaking of media, i was shameless and shazamed songs played at vinyl vibes ...

2-23-2025 MY WEEK: layer up, punk!

Image
happy sunday! 🜲      i stuffed myself with italian food all weekend. typing from food coma at the moment. it's been getting a bit warmer lately and by warmer i mean it's not in the negatives and the snow is almost melting. my looks of the week are going full grandpa/layer style, is it laziness and i'm just stuffing shit on top of me? is it comfort? or is it just the cold? i'm a true fan of androgynous styling and often will go googly eyes for shapeless pieces, think antifashion and older margiela, ann demeulemeester, or yohji yamamoto pieces (all of these designers are on my wishlist if anyone is feeling charitable while reading...).      monday we went grocery shopping and decided maybe we'll get more running shoes because ours have been wearing out from treadmill use. so we went to ross because we've been lucky getting good quality and nice shoe brands for the fraction of the price. the shoe gods blessed us, not so much with running shoes, but wit...

2-16-2025 MY INSPO: when sport meets fashion

Image
a vogue article and the superbowl inspired me to talk about when sports met fashion...     i am not at all sporty. the only sport i did was dance (if you consider that sport) in middle school. that was fashionable. we didn't have uniforms (gotta love the low budget) so instead we had a dress code and just hope we are all cohesive. i remember wearing a pink floral skirt for one performance, and another memory seared into my brain was a barbie girl  performance where i agreed to be the ken. button down shirt which i borrowed from my crush at the time and jeans, while the girls around me were as barbiefied as they could be.   sport is super important where i come from though. croatia is impressive and amazing in sports: handball, waterpolo, and of course soccer - those are just many divisions we excel. let's talk about the croatian soccer jersey. you can recognize it by the bright red and white checkers, a detail taken from our country's...

2-16-2025 MY FAVES: superbowl and sisterhood

Image
music of the week      post superbowl, kendrick lamar's performance was definitely a music highlight this week for me. his whole performance is now on spotify. i also listened to some sza as well, also was influenced by the performance.     since my big project was making a DIY deck of tarot cards, i also felt inspired to create a ton of playlists inspired by the decks:  major arcana ,  suit of swords ,  suit of wands ,  suit of cups , and  suit of pentacles .

2-16-2025 MY WEEK: love as a weekend treat

Image
💟 happy sunday! 💟      i hope you guys are doing a good job of avoiding the sunday scaries, perhaps with leftover chocolate from valentine's day? or with snacks from your galentine's events and a god rom com... if none of those were in your stars this week, i hope you had a fabulous solo time treating yourself. rupaul says " if you don't love yourself, then how the hell you gonna love anybody else? "     my valentine's weekend was spent in the company of the best of both: the gals and the valentine. friday was date night with boyfriend, and he cooked us a steak dinner with veggies, then we went downtown to watch a candelight quartet play a collection of romantic movie songs, like shallow from a star is born (2018) , tons of disney princess songs, and for the end, they played my heart will go on,  spiced up with a proposal from the audience. i was smacking boyfriend on the arm while tears were flowing (because i am such a sucker for romance and i'll cry ...

2-9-2025 MY INSPO: blue velvet cinderella and the caftan cinderella

Image
Valentine's day is a super big inspo this month, so anything pink and red and floral is on my moodboard at the moment. I've been finding Valentine's details and motifs in the current fashion month shows, and street styles.  Copenhagen street style Amiri FW25 menswear

2-9-2025 FAVES OF THE WEEK: too many sausages, not enough reading!

MUSIC OF THE WEEK     Lady Gaga's Abracadabra is on repeat this week. I'm so excited for Gaga's new album. She is truly my favorite singer and I am so thrilled to see her new era. If anyone needs an eras tour, it's Gaga.      Chromeo's Fancy Footwork  gained some virality on TikTok with a cute dance I kind of want to recreate (I know I never will). I personally don't care for Chromeo, they have a great song with Solange called Lost on the Way Home .  I just feel like their lyrics sound like stuff I tried writing when I was 12 and thought I could write songs for One Direction (fanfic brainrot). Like, is it satire in a The Lonely Island  way? Or maybe it's campy for its time, like LMFAO?  Either way, Fancy Footwork is catchy enough to gain its spot in my Spotify liked playlist.     I finally got around to listening to The Weeknd's new album Hurry Up Tomorrow , and it felt like listening to his confession in church, or a therapy...

2-9-2025 MY WEEK: cultural mix, graphic tees, and more busy days

Image
Don't mind me playing around with different fonts. By next month I'm sure something else will catch my mind. Another week has gone by and I am ready to recap it for you.       My work week started off long and draining, and I was immediately exhausted. Luckily as the week went on, it got a bit better and the workload lighter. I really kept myself busy though, with fun activities like thrifting, karaoke, yoga, and a visit to the art museum. The highlight of the week was definitely attending the MIX party at the Museum of Art, themed España. We're trying to immerse ourselves in more local events involving art and culture this year. I've been scouring Facebook events to find some cool, unique events.       I want to spend money on events and experiences, like good food and music, sightseeing and exploring, and just being in new atmospheres. When I lived back in Croatia, our small town held frequent exhibits and plays open to the public, alongs...

2-2-2025 MY WEEK: an intro

Image
Hello and welcome!      I spent most of the week dwelling on how, and where to start this blog idea, and whether I even should start this project, considering how we are all bloggers just by using social media.       I think I enjoy the idea of blogging as a way to develop a community via social media in a slower, less "ad-heavy" way, less influencing, and finally, one has to put more effort in writing and explaining the philosophy behind it. It's exciting. I've been at war against fast fashion, influencing, and now excessive AI use. But I've never been strong enough to delete my social media like Facebook and Instagram. Is it because of the feeling of FOMO? Is it egotistical, because I won't have an outlet to post some of my best looks or fun things, my personal aesthetic?       I listened to a podcast episode this week, by "Science Vs", titled  Narcissist: Are We Surrounded? . It's a good reminder: maybe we're not narc...

2-2-2025 FAVES OF THE WEEK: eusexua at the plaza

Image
MUSIC OF THE WEEK      FKA twigs' new album Eusexua has been on repeat in the household. In the beginning of the week, I listened to songs from and inspired by the movie Party Monster . Can you tell I am a sucker for NYC's music and art scenes? No matter the decade.      Hozier's version of Do I Wanna Know? was played at yoga on Saturday. It's been on my tiktok for the past month. It was a sign to finally save it on my  Spotify .

2-2-2025 MY INSPO: white tees, bloghaus, fashion month

Image
This week I remembered the power of a simple white t shirt, jeans and converse while sib and I were grocery shopping, and yapping away. How a simple cotton white tee can be styled in so many ways. This week I got to style a striped one with some white jeans AND my converse.  Kate Moss      When I was a kid, I loved a good tomboyish look - I would wear a baggy t shirt, oversized camo denim shorts, my hair in my face, and all black converse with a batman graphic design. I felt so good. Androgynous looks are some of my faves (I LOVE moments I can suit up and add a tie - hence the blog name). Simple doesn't need to always be bad, or insecure. Sometimes one's attitude can be a great accessory. Ask all the great it-girls.      I've been entranced with the big bloggers of the late 00s and early 2010s. I just read the book Style Diaries: World Fashion from Berlin to Tokyo . This book was a huge inspiration and motivation to even begi...
