this week's inspo comes from childhood - one of sib's best fashion moments. i may have mentioned in passed entries, but we were introduced to fashion and haute couture and all that screams luxury by our mother. she styled us as toddlers, taught us of the importance of chanel no. 5 (her signature scent) , gave us her old pierre cardin tops from the department store, let us rummage through her old outfits from yugoslavia  and italy  (when you had to buy real jeans in trieste), and bought us a limited edition elizabeth taylor  barbie doll.  through our games and playing pretend, fashion was prominent - our  bratz dolls  had boutiques and fashion shows, in a pretend game of camp i was coco chanel's  long lost daughter, we played numerous dress up games (dollzmania, stardoll, daily dress up games, and roiworld, just to name a few), and one of the games i remember vividly was playing pretend that sib and i owned the boutique  melani safari . this aesth...

8-31-2025 MY INSPO: the space age retrofuturistic aesthetic

last week's entrance i described some vintage stores from columbus, in particular boomerang vintage, with groovy midcentury and googie  retro-futuristic design. i am a huge fan of the aesthetic of this era: chrome tinsel for christmas trees, fridges and kitchen appliances with colorful hues, saturated posters hoping for a space age tomorrow. the retrofuturistic   space age  aesthetic is one i wanted to do a deep dive. this aesthetic is shiny and colorful. i associate jello and martinis with this era, and lots of benzoides.  speaking of such, a lot of tumultuous things were happening in the political and social time, that one could try and ignore through colorful pills, and colorful gadgets. the world was coming out of a nasty war, a woman's place was firmly in that fancy kitchen, and those picket white fences did not allow any person of color.  it's interesting how we talk about trends return, and some of the political trends are trying so hard to come back. mid...
