4-12-2026 MY FAVES: the sound of the city

Image
what i'm reading... new book alert! i'm reading plum sykes's   bergdorf blondes. an early 2000s chick lit about park avenue princesses with the perfect cbk hair. it's a great piggyback on the recent book i read on department stores (when women ran fifth avenue), and great way to prepare the advent of the devil wears prada 2  (i am both nervous and excited. hollywood better not ruin my holy grail!). what i'm watching... does cars 2 on mute count at the hotel in hoboken? what i'm listening to... the  soundtrack  to my new jersey trip  consisted of various 2000s songs, (every and any genre), nyc-related soundtrack songs (such as crazy - alanis morissette; radiowave - leslie mills), the current pop hits (rose gray, harry styles, kesha, justin bieber, fcukers). this playlist guarantees late city nights stay energized.

4-5-2026 MY FAVES: almost reckless

Image
what i'm reading... i finished almost reckless  by amy smilovic , founder of tibi . a light and refreshing read on the definitions of success  and how there really is no failure, just an alternate path of life. amy talks about taking risks in an "almost reckless" manner and doing work unorthodox. it's not wrong, it's "me". i like the brand, i own a tee and a pantsuit set. tibi  is defined as creative pragmatist . high quality materials and fabric, essentials and "capsule" items with a twist, something "creative". while i may not be able to afford a whole tibi closet, i am sold on the philosophy . amy is known for posting instagram stories with styling techniques for simple outfits, turning boring minimalistic and "safe" outfits into creative, well thought masterpieces. simple - but effective! i'll be looking for more advice from the tibi team in the future for sure. while doing my easter nails , i glanced through a  mi...

1-18-2026 MY FAVES: why do good girls love bad boys

Image
books of the week i continue my belle du seigneur journey.  here's my commentary on the male characters that are part of the league of nations  (predecessor of today's united nations ): the incompetence of these men, who hold the question of diplomatic recognition, the final say in potential genocide, rights and fights for countries in need, is evident by how the questions are described with carelessness and considered an annoying chore. these important questions and tasks that could impact a whole nation's global recognition end up being forgotten by these sloths of high society. they're rich white dudes who could care less, because it's their own little circle of pathetic "society", their own "creme de la creme" that matters most to them. look at the un today: the legacy of the league of nations. let's put aside the fictional characters and their "quirks", what are these men doing regarding the questions of genocide and national...

1-4-2026 MY FAVES: wickedly talented

Image
books of the week i'm still chipping off this titanic book - belle du seigneur  - and the book feels more and more like a yorgos lanthimos film. there was a 2012 film made based on the book, but reboots are so in right now. movies of the week talk about trends, and i'm late on the wicked  bandwagon. sib and i just watched the first one on friday - and i do understand the hype. it was wickedly good. music of the week to tie onto our movie of the week, here are some wicked fave songs that i will be belting shamelessly around the house: popular - ariana grande dancing through life - jonathan bailey defying gravity - cynthia erivo, ariana grande

12-21-2025 MY FAVES: you kinda ate, mr grinch

Image
movies of the week here's more christmas movies for your holiday watching: emmett otter's jug-band christmas  - a break from the same christmas songs in this soundtrack, amazing jim henson muppet work, extremely underrated with the cutest, almost sad storyline. the talent show winners ate - no denying that! the polar express  - because why not watch it again?  the little drummer boy 2  - if you can find a version with no ads every 3 minutes. how the grinch stole christmas - another iconic classic. this really isn't my fave version - but martha may and little taylor momsen are icons so it's second place, right behind the original animated version. music of the week i was unaware of the swag that the how the grinch stole christmas  movie soundtrack contains. we know jim carrey's version of "you're a mean one, mister grinch" and we've all adored faith hill's rendition of "where are you, christmas". but it features some 2000s bands, like ...

11-09-2025 MY FAVES: a glimpse into my parent's library

Image
books of the week now that i've finished the period brain , i delved into my dad's library of books he's gotten at various book promotions at hometown - mainly political and wwii related. so i read about  huda jama , which i won't share much about, as croatian history is incredibly complicated - and i am no poli-sci professional.  up next, another political book about a priest's involvement with croatian freedom fighters before and during our homeland war - called osvit u slobodi  (translated a dawn in freedom). this book is very new, it's not even in goodreads. short, with some great patriotic quotes. i got to learn about some underdog freedom fighters too. my parents used to go to numerous book promotions at our local library, hence so many books at home, left unread. dad prefers the political ones, but my mom and i were never picky. this upcoming book, is a fable poetry book - called život(h)inj(ic)e  (i kinda don't know how i would translate this - but i...

11-02-2025 MY FAVES: advice for your period brain, thrillers, and psychedelic rock of croatia

Image
books of the week this week i finished reading the period brain. it's interesting to see how the two phases in our lives affect our productivity, our sex drive, our self-esteem, and i appreciate the tips on how to weather the waves when they come and go. here's some helpful takeaways: things you can do today to support your luteal-phase sexuality: - track your sexual desire across the cycle - if you have a partner, communicate - do health and relationship checks - fight the good fight (or don't!) against feeling unsexy - get outside of yourself by dropping into a fantasy - investigate supplements or dietary changes to improve sexual function supporting ovulation and resilience to hormonal changes - be well nourished - be well rested - be active - manage stress well - have meaningful connections with other people - avoid chemicals that fuck up our hormones from bad to worse: chronic conditions, pain, and luteal phase worsening of symptoms - changes in pain perception - cha...

10-26-2025 MY FAVES: a collection of the strangest movies on croatian tv

Image
books of the week this week i have been slowly reading the period brain. when with family, i do get distracted with a million other things to do, but i am enjoying educating myself on the mysteries of womanhood. movies of the week i've been watching some interesting movies on our local tv. parents don't believe in cable, so we are at mercy of the gods of local niche blockbusters.  boyfriend and i watched the croatian  film Å¡al Å¡a  - a zombie apocalypse comedy about people on a small island, infected by mystery tomatoes. nationalistic songs save the day. we watched hit man  starring glen powell and adria arjona. glen powell's hair pissed my off so much. but the film was tense with an interesting ending. it's loosely based on a true story (with some obvious hollywood tropes).  late friday night, boyfriend and i stayed up, sort of watching this strange movie with a great cast but severely depressing plot: powder blue . starring ray liotta, patrick swayze (hi...

9-28-2025 MY FAVES: "when the going gets tough, the tough go shopping"

Image
books of the week continuing reading on & by andy warhol , and i love how gen-z he sounds - in one segment, he speaks about how people that don't work directly in the factory say he has an aura . in the "by" portion, it focuses on interviews with warhol or his own work. it seems he tried to "dumb it down" stating he "only reads books with pictures" and did not have a deeper meaning when focusing on pop!  or consumeristic art. brief mentions of valerie solanas (now eager to read her scum manifesto ), many mentions of getting shot (duhhh).  i guess he was ahead of his time, considering he was obsessed with tv and media, had a vibe/aura" to him, and was just kind of there - making "art" (question mark for some).  is the reincarnation of andy - those artsy fashion institute kids we see on tiktok - with cybersigil tattoos, wolf cuts etc...? or perhaps, the vibe is the art itself... the irony of pop art is inherent, since the pop artist ...
