9-28-2025 MY FAVES: "when the going gets tough, the tough go shopping"

 books of the week

continuing reading on & by andy warhol, and i love how gen-z he sounds - in one segment, he speaks about how people that don't work directly in the factory say he has an aura. in the "by" portion, it focuses on interviews with warhol or his own work. it seems he tried to "dumb it down" stating he "only reads books with pictures" and did not have a deeper meaning when focusing on pop! or consumeristic art. brief mentions of valerie solanas (now eager to read her scum manifesto), many mentions of getting shot (duhhh).
i guess he was ahead of his time, considering he was obsessed with tv and media, had a vibe/aura" to him, and was just kind of there - making "art" (question mark for some).
is the reincarnation of andy - those artsy fashion institute kids we see on tiktok - with cybersigil tattoos, wolf cuts etc...? or perhaps, the vibe is the art itself...

the irony of pop art is inherent, since the pop artist paradoxically is both an accomplice and the prosecutor of a society of which he opportunistically takes advantage while also judging it with acute observation skills.

on warhol:1960s. gérald gassiot-talabot. 'lettre de paris', review of andy warhol at galerie sonnabend 1964

read this vanity fair article about socialite nan kempner - nye old money socialites might be my new fixation for fall.

movies of the week

we watched fools rush in -  a cute rom com from 1997 starring selma hayek and matthew perry. i really enjoyed this film - the connection of two seemingly opposite cultures, and how merging both can be chaotic but also fruitful. the architecture in the film was so colorful, and matthew perry's looks were sleek and hot!
sib and i watched a couple episodes of america's next top model cycle 6. a throwback of our childhood days obsessing over the creative photoshoots, sparkly clothes and drama we were too young to comprehend (as well as the insane commentary by tyra that would not fly in the big 25).
mostly as a comfort (?) show, and possibly as inspiration for some future outfits...

while researching for this week's inspo, i watched house comes with a bird - a miu miu short film in the series women's tales (#23), directed by janicza bravo. a warm soft-toned film starring kelsey lu, natasha lyonne, and pedro pascal.
sib and i watched the truman show late one of these weekend nights. jim carey's final fit was the best. his movies where he minimally has those facial expressions - the films that are extremely existential, are his best work.

music of the week

if you're in the mood for some lounge throwbacks, too sultry to be defined as elevator music, but perhaps chill enough, check out the latest one i made: gen x soft club, based on the aesthetic of the same name. imagine, the future we were promised: nokia phones, see through pvc clothing and chrome, and blue eyeshadow. cold, futuristic, minimalistic, but oh so chic.
i got lucky at this weekend's garage sale and picked up edith piaffrancois hardy and hawaii five-o vinyls.

here's some other recent saves of the week:
chosen - blood orange, caroline polachek
trebleness - svadbas
ghetto kraviz (original mix) - nina kraviz
gimme danger - the stooges
venus as a boy - björk
