4-26-2026 MY FAVES: earth to the blondes

Image
what i'm reading... i completed bergdorf blondes , if you're in the mood for a fun fashion chick lit with a plot twist ending, this easy read is perfect for you. feels super relevant especially with the cbk resurgence, and the 2000s nostalgia hits the spot. there's definitely lots of shallowness, like a gossip girl in her mid-twenties, and your healthy (?) dose of spoiled brat. next read is a november 2023 harper's bazaar  found almost forgotten in my pile of magazines, and i'm going through the vogue france fall/winter 25-26 collections . tune in next couple weeks for some inspo i gathered from these magazines. saturday was spent in the company of betsey johnson , as i binge-read her memoir. maybe i read it so fast because i relate to her eccentric style? maybe it's because she loved all the wild sides of life but stayed true to her 'good girl self'. in the memoir, she speaks about how she struggled in the 70s to be taken serious in the industry as sh...

3-8-2026 MY FAVES: women in music, rakes and bachelors, harry squared

Image
what i'm reading... started reading spare  - prince harry's scandalous memoir. i enjoy the few bits on princess diana as a mother, other than that, i am yet to get into the juicier details as i currently weave through harry's privileged youth. what i'm watching... bridgerton season 4 ended fantastically, with a happy ending so tense you can only expect in the bridgerton universe. this was def my fave season. i've been catching up with gospodin savrÅ¡eni  - the croatian version of the bachelor. sib has been playing it on the tv over the week, and i hate to admit i've been following along. i can only microdose reality tv. watching these people act so stupid or psycho makes me anxious. it feels like a modern-day gladiator fight. we put these desperate influencer wannabes into a villa on crete to battle for two dudes - one of them significantly lacking iq! many 20-something year old women attended harry day  at the rock and roll hall of fame  to celebrate the newes...

3-1-2026 MY FAVES: portrait of a lady

Image
what i'm watching... sib and i found our series faves, very fitting for our personalities. i've been enjoying the kennedy kult with american love story  and sib is with the band - she also read daisy jones and the six  so we're catching up where we started a year ago. sleek minimalism of the 90s meets 70s grunge. guess what our middle ground consensus is - bridgerton season 4, part 2  and jane eyre  starring michael fassbender and mia wasikowska. it's normal to pace and scream into a pillow while watching bridgerton, right? if not, the brontë classic felt chillingly good, especially after the wuthering heights debacle.  okay, we also return to the modern times to wrap up the bridget jones saga  - and we watched bridget jones' baby and mad about the boy . the bridget jones soundtracks are super fun, i love each one. movie #3 felt a bit messy but we'll forgive it since emma thompson and patrick dempsey are in it. the final film - mad about the boy - wa...

10-12-2025 MY FAVES: fashion breaking news

Image
books of the week i read the september issue  of l'officiel. loved the article on manolo blahnik 's marie antoinette collection, and his thoughts on shoes: with a focus on craftsmanship, comfort, and "a touch of eccentricity," blahnik's designs are rooted in wearability. "shoes are not just accessories," he says. "they can transform a woman and change how she feels." his design process has changed little over time. "drawing shoes has become a kind of language, my way of dreaming," he says. "i know now that a shoe's magic is revealed only through iteration; returning to a design with fresh eyes leads to surprising new possibilities." sib won a goodreads giveaway  and got a comic book  called phantom road . described as mad max: fury road   meets the sandman in this high-octane adventure wrapped in a dark fantasy aesthetic  i don't read comics, ever really, but a free book on my shelf will never go unread. i read the...

9-14-2025 MY FAVES: do you belieb in love?

Image
books of the week i finished reading last week's new yorker  issue, as well as various npr  articles. i follow their app as my news source, so when i'm having breakfast or doing notes at work, i can even listen to the articles. here's another article from the new yorker that caught my attention:  are critics too nice?  perhaps we do need to be harsher with pop music of today. do we hear this bizarre shit circulating the internet? i'm talking nursery rhyme bullshit (abcdefu), and mediocre cash grabs (tortured poets dept - try and dox me). shall i start from myself - when i share music i'm listening to weekly? i could monetize my inner hater into a career of professional critic ... i also read a quirky chick lit romance called julie and romeo  about two sixty year olds floral shop rivals - turned lovers, at the demise of their grown children. it's cute, quirky, and refreshing. with the obvious shakespearean sentiments. we're forced to look away from growing...

8-24-2025 MY FAVES: damsels playing distressed

Image
books of the week this week in my solo book club, i'm still engulfed in  tajna krvavog  mosta . i have such an urge to visit the croatian capital, zagreb , because most of the book is set there, in actual neighborhoods of it. my plan is to do a zagorka  tour next time i visit. the book is huge, and i'll be sharing more bits about it. so far, we're trying to solve a murder mystery, and possibly one of the first mentions of cross-dressing and drag in croatian literature. how hasn't hollywood, or at least the creators of downton abbey or bridgeton get their hands on this series?  movies of the week so far, just reruns of mentalist  for sib and i as the evenings get cooler.  we watched  rosaline (2022) , a hulu-produced period rom-cam depicting romeo and juliet, from cousins rosaline's point of view.  the film had strong  bridgerton  influence mostly in music, and race-bending characters. i was positively surprised by the freshness of...

6-15-2025 MY FAVES: juneteenth faves and poolside jams

Image
music of the week in honor of juneteenth coming up, here are 5 recent faves by black artists: every girl (wants my guy) - aretha franklin vous etes seuls, mais je desire etre avec vous - nina simone you go to my head (henry green remix) - billie holiday that beat - quavius family affair - sly & the family stone (rest in peace!) music apps really seem to be some of my faves. beside airbuds, radiooooo and my classic spotify (over)use, might i suggest a new app on my radar? this app is called poolsuite   fm  - an aesthetically pleasing music app playing mostly beachy house music fit for various summer moments, categorized in "channels" such as balearic sundown , friday night heat , hangover club , and more. you can also listen to curated mixtapes by dj's from all over the world. finally the app itself channels  retro vibes, with options of visuals from the 80s vhs tapes reminiscing of baywatch . guess what i'm going to be listening to during pool days paired with ...
