what i'm reading...

i got a new newsletter from the cleveland museum of art, and their upcoming live performances are a work of art! big emphasis on korean art, including a few korean musicians that are coming end of year.
i began reading the grapes of wrath. i have a bizarre fascination with the dust bowl and the depression era and lately have been finding many parallels between society today and a hundred years ago, particularly lately with the talk on data centers booming from town to town. will this also dry out the land like the lack of crop rotation did because of millionaires of the 1920s? what a hauntingly timeless piece of work. 

what i'm listening to...

tune into the playlist i made for ireland trip. note: there's a lot of british performers too, i forgot for a minute that irish people hate the brits.

what i'm watching...

last week we watched emma (1996) featuring gwyneth paltrow. i've seen numerous versions of emma, including clueless and the more recent reboot starring anya taylor-joy. this one was considered a great book-to-film adaptation of an austen book, but the 2005 pride and prejudice took the cake. 

on the flight to ireland, sib and i both watched the devil wears prada 2. finally. the set seemed too sterile, as do most films nowadays, like their clothes just look too perfect and the sets look like - sets. the plot though, was surprisingly really good. the message - an accurate critique of the happenings at vogue, tech billionaires buying out fashion magazines for their airheaded girlfriends, editors-in-chief staying put since the days of yore but now the glamour has been lost due to cancel culture and this social purification and digitization. let's look at the backlash of announcing john galliano as the theme for next year's met gala? was shut down completely due to his past antisemitic statements. i think i mentioned this in my blog update on john galliano weeks ago, but i hate to say that this is a missed opportunity for celebrating some real good fashion talent. and the fact that anna wintour was told "no?" for more on this sticky situation, i recommend reading brenda weischer's substack anna w, meet anna l

on the way home, sib was indulged into lord of the rings, as she's currently reading the hobbit, and i was entranced in the other wizarding world, by rewatching harry potter and the sorcerer's stone and the chamber of secrets. i thought the films were going to make me fall asleep better, but instead i was truly enjoying rewatching them for the millionth time. fiancé and i are already planning a movie marathon for all films - again.

  it was a feast-full of a week my friends, and sib and i treated ourselves frequently with eating out, as did boyfriend and i. while i enjoy cooking every so often, i admit i have no desire to, and will always rather eat out. i understand the health and economic benefits of cooking at home, but i'll never say to no to tacos at barrio , ramen at ichiraku , udon noodles at asian feastery, or all you can eat sushi at  kintaro . same goes for breakfast - i'll indulge in the low-key diner vibes of manhattan deli  or go for the continental buffet after church at concord family restaurant .  a very cat-oriented week it was too. on our late-night walk, we had a shadow follow us, a cat kind enough to let us pet it a million times. we also participated in a kitten kanuudle  fundraiser with amazing raffles (neither of us won). sib and i don't own a cat due to allergies, but maybe someday we'd say yes to adopting, maybe, just maybe... sib and i were the youngest attendees ...

10-19-2025 MY WEEK: travel essentials and super products

sib was dropped off to the airport end of this week, for her "vacay" to start. don't be alarmed, by vacay, we mean harvesting the olives our parents own. meanwhile, i have a few days of prepping and packing. i shared with you my packing list, months ago - was it vermont or pittsburgh trips? well, here i am to share my essential packing list for this month's big trip.  somewhere on the indyx realm on substack, i read that 12 items can be enough for a two week trip, they used as an example, to europe. of course i was up for the challenge. i love a good no-fuss packing list. and i am grateful to have a semi-wardrobe back in croatia (and a love for shopping, am i right?). still, i haven't been in the homeland during fall, since my senior year of high school. through the years my fall/winter wardrobe diminished, due to the oversaturated summer trips and necessity for summer wardrobe space in my parents' tiny apartment.  let's get onto what's in my suitcase....

11-30-2025 MY INSPO: a bountiful harvest of inspiration

  this past week, inspiration was all around, from gifts i'm excited to wear, to the turbofolk princesses of the 2000s. here's some inspo that caught my attention, and now i'm bringing it to yours. y2k balkan style while my peers in the usa were surrounded by nicole richie and paris hilton, jwow and snooki, britney, destiny's child and xtina - as the naughties style icons with a reputation , i was surrounded by not so different icons, when it comes down to the level of cuntiness.  a bit of backstory - with croatian history being extremely complex with serbs, we're in an entanglement of sorts. very similar, shared most of our lives and upbringing, lot's of our traditions overlap. we're neighbors, friends and cousins with each other, and our languages are similar - we don't need translation. and we cannot forget the homeland war, where this relationship took a dark turn and left these feelings bittered toward our neighbors. i am no historian, and i know th...
