boyfriend and i were eager to get out the state for this long weekend. i've been challenging myself to travel each month, even for a day trip. this month, we visited the tiny quaint town of wells, which you may remember from last august's report: 'my week in vermont'. we decided to open up summer pre-season and do stuff boyfriend has been eager to show me, which i was unable to see last time. this place is boyfriend's happy place, and while i'm a city girl thru and thru, i can appreciate the pastures just below the appalachians, the quaint towns full of history, and boyfriend's stories, as well as dipping my fingers straight into maple syrup cans.
here's a brief travelogue of this quaint countryside getaway:
friday
i finished paperwork pretty early, as everyone has been itching to wrap up work and start the long weekend. i kept my email open as we embark on a 7-and-a-half-hour drive. i've got plenty of time to review emails anyways.
boyfriend and i did a game to keep us focused on the game, find a license plate for every state. spoiler: we found about 25 (with honorable mentioned of canada and mexico). beside the game, we snacked, listened to true crime podcasts about a local cult murder from our childhood hometown, and we listened to my curated road trip playlist (check it out in this week's faves). we stopped a couple times at some gas stations, getting random snacks like fruit and aerated chocolate, and aloe drinks. the rarer, the better.
we arrived at the cabin late at 11, unable to see the beautiful view of the lake, but indulging in the cozy antiquity throughout the wooden panels, furniture - each room decorated impeccably with antiques, nature motifs, and landscape paintings of lakes, boats, and cozy cottages.

saturdaywe woke up with a refreshing view, of subtle sunshine and the peaceful lake st catherine. boyfriend made us breakfast sandwiches, and we got ready for the plans for the day. i was eager to go thrifting, as most antique stores and consignments in the area were only open today out of the other days, we're in the area. boyfriend's mission was to spend the day on mount bromley, a ski resort with fun rides throughout the whole year.
we were able to compromise doing both. we stopped at dorset exchange, a consignment store in a small town before stopping at bromley, where i got some jewelry to share with sib, and a gift for sib - a polka dot skort. i passed on a tropical lilly pulitzer halter blouse. yellow was never my color. we were blessed with numerous yard sales on our way to and from bromley. we made our stops whenever we could. |

pre-season at mount bromley, boyfriend explained we scored with half-off pricing on tickets, but to expect everything else to be expensive. no biggie, we took the ski lift to the top of the mountain, which contained alpine slides with three speeds, beginner, medium, and expert. i'd be lying if i said i was initially nervous. you get these wheeled toboggans with a "stop" and "go" lever. i pulled myself together because on our way to the top we could see kids of many ages going on the fastest one, nonchalant. beginner slide - check! i was eager to get back on top and tackle medium speed next. feeling more confident, i zoomed down the slide with more ease, pushing the 'go' lever a little harder. on our way up to the slide, boyfriend pointed out the beads and bras stuck on trees around us. no comment. we went on the giant swing, which is exactly that, a huge swing on the edge of the park, pulled from one side with a lever, then let go full force. feeling super adrenaline-pumped, we ordered an overpriced ceasar salad and chicken tenders with fries. we finally tackled the expert slide, and i was pumped to fly thru it. i had a bit more luck on it than boyfriend, but that's not my story to tell. exhausted and a bit cold from the elevation, we visited the oldest marble quarry hole in the usa, marveled the view and giant stonehenge-like stones, got soft serve ice creams and sat by the lake, where boyfriend was contemplating a therapeutic cold plunge. a dip to the knees sufficed.
we woke up early, to a gloomy morning and rain tapping on the top of our cabin. breakfast at the local country store, featuring steaming hot coffee. boyfriend's cousin met us and we drove up to the sugar house, passing by the misty hilltops. there, we tested our maple syrup knowledge, and canned jugs and jugs for a couple hours. city girl i may be, but agriculture is still ingrained in me. random garden skills, olive oil, wine, now i'm adding maple syrup on my agro-resume.

we checked out the antique store held by the wells historical society, and got niche history lessons on the town, and before having a good dinner, took a rainy walk through the lake st katherine state park.catch the tail-end of our trip next week on the blog, as we wrap up tour de vermont on memorial day!
this week's looks
while sib has been obsessing over polka dots, i'm noticing more and more stripes in my closet. it's one of my go-to patterns, and it's evident just by the case of stripes i've had just this week.
monday was a very hot day, but i couldn't think of a cute fit, so i opted for comfort. a work tee, skinny jeans, adidas gazelles, sib's patchwork tote and giant sunnies.
sib needed more sewing supplies for her long weekend, so this was our thrift fit: ralph lauren cotton dress, adidas gazelles, sib's patchwork tote (fitting), ray ban aviator sunnies.
another hot day (yay!), this time i felt well prepared for work: my fave everyday dress, christopher john rogers x target, leather shoulder bag and patent leather loafers, sib's versace sunnies.
an evening walk worth the sweats: striped it out fully with a cropped tank, speedo shorts, gazelles, and my headphones.
mid-week change of guards. the weather turned uncertain, and i opted for a vintage black and ivory floral-patterned blouse, my mom's silky chrome bubble skirt, and fisherman loafers, same sunnies and leather purse. side note: i was going to walk out without tights, but they were worn (not pictured).
more comfort found in stripes and blouses. a croft and barrow blue shade pinstripe blouse matched with black trousers and white penny loafers. fendi oversized sunnies, and leather purse.
friday work - totally greyscaled. a white and grey striped blouse, a switch up with identical grey trousers, and switched black shoes to white penny loafers. longchamp tote and brown sunnies.
please forgive the trashy gas station selfie from our trip - not the most fashionable fit but served its purpose of comfort for a 7-hour trip. distressed led zeppelin tee, khaki cargo pants, birkenstocks, and my longchamp. that bag is a great recommendation for travelling. fuck a goyard.
saturday's exploration of vermont: consisted of necessary layers for change in altitudes. elton john tee, oversized blouse, and vintage denim jacket. fave walking shoes and comfy stretchy pants.
sunday was dedicated to maple syrup. layers were of necessity, a knit headband to keep my ears warm, and rainboots as the first half of day was raining away.
what am i looking forward to next week?
while i wish my vacation would last all week, i have a list of errands to run. not expecting summer fun to start just yet, but we're edging toward some exciting events!
