5-25-2025 MY WEEK: reports from the roadtrips.

Image
the long weekend came announcing the start of the summer season, and i am returning with my late reports on how my week went, and what i wore. a missed opportunity for good weather this whole week was. on wednesday i went to a little league baseball game with my clients, and while it was warm, the grey clouds seemed threatening. we were on the lookout for raindrops that would've ruined our pastime.  monday i did my nails, and boyfriend describes them as "beer pong nails": the yellow dot represents the ping pong ball and the red squares the cup. i really like that interpretation. mine was a bit more intellectual, a vague inspiration from mondrian's work and basic geometry and colors. i should do rorschach blot nails next. analysis and diagnosis is what i do best, ask all my friends. my highlight of the week was definitely going on over the weekend. while last week sib and i planned to have a beachy day in put-in-bay, the weather hasn't been just right  for the be...

5-25-2025 MY FAVES: you got your h.p. lovecraft...

Image
books of the week currently reading h.p. lovecraft's great tales of horror . while the dialogue is a bit hard to understand (rural english from literally 100 years ago), the stories are fantastical and creepy. the way to describes the rural countryside of new england between 1916 and 1930, when you put it in context, it was a creepy time: world war i, the great depression, it reminds me of the ohio countryside and the horrors hiding in grain silos. it also reminds me of the movies pearl   and the devil all the time . my literal roman empire is the dust bowl, old rural americana, the american gothic.  there were some parts of most stories that were in true form racist: all these evils came from non-white groups. mentions of voodoo among new orleans african americans, the "evil book" necronomicon coming from an arabic author, and a racist portrayal of the innuit in the cthuhlu story itself. lovecraft was indeed a white supremacist, according to his wikipedia. check o...

5-25-2025 MY INSPO: creme de la creme, a la cannes.

Image
ohio's weather this week has been far from glorious - side note - does living in ohio qualify that we are all meteorologists to some degree? i feel like each blog entry has a blurb on whatever is going on in this place. anyways, with the poor weather, and the craving for vacations, beaches, rivieras, social media has been rubbing in our faces the cream of the hollywood crop during this year's cannes international film festival . i could spend hours and hours imagining myself on a yacht somewhere on the south of france, but instead i'd love to analyze some of my favorite cannes looks from this year's red carpet. this year's festival had a curious new rule - no nude-ish dresses or voluminous trains. when i shared this with sib, her immediate response was "was it because of bianca censori?" in all honesty, i forget the scandalous non-outfits she reps.  i do find the "shock value" trends annoying and i agree that anything kanye-censori styled is gros...

5-18-2025 MY FAVES: let yourself b-guided> to new places

music of the week lenny kravitz is my style and musical muse of the week, and this week's inspo  section is dedicated to his fashion and style. brief, but still impactful. here's some songs that have been bringing back funk this spring: again stand by my woman dancin' til dawn let it ride (jamie jones remix) it ain't over til it's over fly away

5-18-2025 MY INSPO: lenny kravitz makes us dance til dawn

Image
i don't know what got me in a lenny kravitz mood this week. i know minimal about this guy. self-proclaimed minister of rock and roll, lisa bonet's ex husband and zoe kravitz' dad, a couple songs that are radio faves, and cinna from the hunger games movies. that's about it.  i was discovering a bunch of cool songs by him, and i thought - he's like a less problematic prince. prince obviously had very signature styles of his work, but i'd say lenny kravitz is underrated and just as funky. other than calling himself a "player" in the past, no controversies are mentioned in his wikipedia. that's positively surprising! like his music, lenny kravtiz' style is very rock-chic, but also classic americana rockstar: cowboy boots and perfectly fitting denim jeans. there's also that hippie look that translates into his music as well.  i don't think you guys understand how amazing he looked with gold eyeliner in the hunger games movie (catching fire, ...

5-18-2025 MY WEEK: chasing ribs and rainbows

Image
it was a week for the smell of smoke lingering in our hair, from bonfires to rib burnouts. we tasted some pretty gory gin and tonics, and some greasy sandwiches and pulled pork nachos. it's festival and fair season, y'all. it's the time the voice in my brain turns into anthony bourdain's narration and we end up people watching - guessing who is a couple, and who might be just a mother chaperoning her kids. let's indulge - the fairs are totally an american pastime. what says american better than country/rock bands, and extreme barbeque choices? sib and i got to go to the takashi murakami exhibit preview using my fresh new membership cards for the museum. and my sandals matched the colorful florals on display. i kind of wish we went the day prior, as murakami himself was at the museum. either way, it was interesting  looking at the disturbing and cute artwork.  saturday evening, sib and i simply had to go to the downtown willoughby rib cookout . we were accompanied b...

5-11-2025 MY WEEK: tending to my roots

Image
so many roots to care for this week. the art reception for local art was held, and my painting of my hometown ancient church was displayed. it's a proud moment to use my ancestry as inspiration. sib and i were joking that my next goal should be trying to get an exhibit done in my hometown library (that's where art exhibits happen - we only have a history museum). more literal roots were pulled out of our garden, as sib ordered a complete revamp of our garden. no more square, useless grass lawn - we're planting deeper and more meaningful roots. sib got inspired by docuseries on english gardens, and our mother's own garden. on sunday, my brown roots in my hair got a makeover and i am no longer blonde(ish) - just a new ginger. i got so inspired i made a  playlist inspired by my childhood hair salon trips and endless admiration of the hair salon magazines while waiting.

5-11-2025 MY FAVES: tracklists, travel guides, tailored suits.

books of the week i completed unmask alice  and this book was an incredible investigation. if you have any interest in the satanic panic of the 70s, as well as anti-drug propaganda, this book will take you start to finish on how these social events happen - these fearmongering events and moral panic (which we'll be seeing more in this political climate we're currently in). if you've crossed paths with alice   (go ask alice by "anonymous") in your childhood, this book is a great eye opener.  i also read the latest may edition  of vogue , with a$ap rocky on the cover, honoring him as co-chairman of the met gala. i began reading b-guided>.   this is not necessarily a book, but rather a magazine/guide about trending fashion, nightlife, art, and architecture in barcelona . i got #17 autumn 2003 from a local library book sale. if you're into the gen x soft club aesthetic revival , here's a perfect guide to the trends of the times, if you're lookin...

5-11-2025 MY INSPO: the met and the mothers

Image
on the met gala the first monday in may came and went, and left impeccable  new looks for everyone's moodboard and wonderfully tailored ideas. this year, smart suits dominated the blue  carpet for this year's theme of superfine: tailoring black style , and luckily there wasn't worrying appropriation and costumification of the black  dandyism  culture. here are some of my personal faves of  the most important night in fashion. this would've been an ideal night to hear andré leon talley's commentary.  diana ross in a dress and 18ft train  made by nigerian designer ugo mozie quinta brunson in sergio hudson ava duvernay in custom prada alton mason in custom boss zendaya in custom louis vuitton janelle monae in thom browne lakeith stanfield in ferragamo chappell roan in a costume look sourced from ebay. makeup: path mcgrath pamela anderson in tory burch. and microbangs. lupita nyong'o in chanel here were top three met afterparty looks: miley in alaïa...

5-4-2025 MY WEEK: animalistic blues

everyone say welcome back sib ! she returns from her odyssey into the homeland, and bears a multitude of gifts.  aside from delicious snacks she brought back, sib got us more melem , a skincare brand from croatia i always try to stack up on. she got me april's vogue adria  edition, that also included vogue living . it is i, readers, that am living  for this. i also asked for an interview magazine  if she found it in the european airports, as i used to get lucky during trips years prior. sib did not share that luck, but i am still grateful.  sib did not disappoint in the clothing department. here's just a small haul of items she brought back, that i know for a fact, i'll be borrowing: trench coat from h&m . gift from a family friend tote bag from our hometown.  the art is ai and i am very upset asymmetrical lace top with bell sleeves purchased at house vintage evening dress from mom vintage evening dress from mom asymmetrical top purchased in home...
