5-18-2025 MY WEEK: chasing ribs and rainbows
it was a week for the smell of smoke lingering in our hair, from bonfires to rib burnouts. we tasted some pretty gory gin and tonics, and some greasy sandwiches and pulled pork nachos. it's festival and fair season, y'all. it's the time the voice in my brain turns into anthony bourdain's narration and we end up people watching - guessing who is a couple, and who might be just a mother chaperoning her kids. let's indulge - the fairs are totally an american pastime. what says american better than country/rock bands, and extreme barbeque choices?
saturday evening, sib and i simply had to go to the downtown willoughby rib cookout. we were accompanied by bestie victoria and boyfriend. it was a cold walk, we all got too comfortable in the sweltering heat that teased us just a couple days ago. but that's ohio weather. it's expected to be unexpectable. the smells were inviting, but the lines were taunting. i got pulled pork nachos (smothered in the yellow nacho cheese and barbecue sauce), sib went classic- pulled pork sandwich and coleslaw, and boyfriend dared to try "fusion" - jamaican jerk sandwich, that had more than the daily necessity for seasoning. we had to walk off the grease and the cold, which led us to some delicious dessert options, like homemade fudge and "fresh out the oven" lemon cookies. the cookies didn't make it back to our cars.
saturday for the takashi murakami exhibit i wore a blue plunge top, calvin klein denim skirt, sandals with florals (pictured earlier in this entry), and sib's vintage suede tassel jacket.
sib and i got to go to the takashi murakami exhibit preview using my fresh new membership cards for the museum. and my sandals matched the colorful florals on display. i kind of wish we went the day prior, as murakami himself was at the museum. either way, it was interesting
looking at the disturbing and cute artwork.

looks of the week
"all of my purple life" - the lyrics of prince's song erotic city popped into my head multiple times this week. for some reason, the look formula most of the week was purple top and black bottoms. there's exceptions of more androgynous looks - boyish shorts, graphic tees and baggy button downs. so - very prince-like: incorporating both feminine and masculine elements, and a disgusting amount of purple.
monday i wore a simple plaid columbia button down and some thrifted lee jeans. not pictured were my doc marten loafers. my new hair blends well with my work bathroom door.
tuesday i opted for another androgynous baggy button down blouse, paired with the feminine - my mom's old skirt, and steve madden shoes.
thursday a body-con top, express slacks, this time switching up ever so slightly with an oversized blazer, for the sake of androgyny.

the fits went overboard friday. first i wore a purple/black top and tadashi mesh pants with doc marten heart decorated shoes. then had to run some errands in the sweltering heat and switched the top into a blue tank and broke into the birkenstocks for the season.
afterwards, i changed into my diesel t shirt and black jeans, with leather shoes with a chunky heel. we got gin and tonics at a local bar with bestie vic and people watched, all while listening to some guys perform an array of 90s divorced dad rock songs. finally sib and i changed into baggy shorts from stradivarius and my skechers to meet boyfriend while he was making a bonfire with his buddies.
for the rib fest i wore a vince camuto 3/4 sleeve sweater, armani jeans (a recent thrift find), bershka red flats, thrifted ralph lauren shoulder bag.
what am i looking forward to this week?
my memorial weekend plans filled up since i haven't traveled anywhere since st. patrick's day, and i've been itching for a getaway. the whole week's weather is not looking promising at all, forecasting gloomy skies and nothing warm. however, sib and i will be taking a day trip to put-in-bay just to feel something beachy, then the following two days boyfriend and i will explore the new york side of niagara falls. fingers crossed the maid of the mist won't be painfully cold. expect late entries, this girl will be off the grid and on the highway.
