4-12-2026 MY WEEK: jersey shore

a bit late entry, forgive me. still jetlagged and running on an insufficient amount of sleep. what the hell was i doing you may ask? just a weekend trip to hoboken, new jerseysib and i were looking for super cheap flights to somewhere other than ohio for the spring, being fed up with this winter. newark was pretty affordable and while we're familiar with nyc, new jersey is a new territory to be unlocked. the travel diary begins...

friday afternoon we had a flight right after work and we flew from a rainy cleveland to a sunny but windy jersey. ubered to the waterfront of hoboken, and checked into the hotel all while a netflix special was filming right in the lobby. these hotel staff 100% signed an nda, because netflix was the only information we got. and honestly, must've been a c-list movie because i did not see any household figures. oh well, what a fun way to start our weekend trip! while waiting for bestie nicole to visit us from the city, sib and i went to jeong's film - a photo booth spot with a few different photo booths for $6. we meet with bestie nicole for dinner at lola's, and downed martinis and grazed on a cheeseboard while catching up (we collectively decided to have taco bell nearby at the end of the night out). the wind died down, the drinks had us in a great mood. the night was still young. we barhopped from country bars to irish pubs. at the end of the night, we went to the meccah of drunk food, only to find the door shut and locked, a man with a stern look guarding the door, waving his finger at us. bullshit, it's only 2:30 and it's supposed to close at 3! not worth the hassle, the dude is committed to the job, we walk up to mcdonalds. ordered a whole bunch of somethings, we drunkenly hopped back to the hotel, and devoured.

bestie nicole's dirty little secret
saturday. wake up dizzy, painfully hungover. the mcdonalds did not to the job correctly. lay in bed, can't sleep anymore. enjoy the soft white sheets and pillows. scroll on the phone, shower in the luscious bathroom. i am healed. pop a tylenol and into the city of hoboken. a sunny and still windy day. we walk to the old german bakery for some pastries. i get a pistachio croissant, sib gets a spinach turnover. hunt down caffeine, and most importantly, thrift. an iced pistachio latte and matcha were served at mod. sib and i walk thru boutiques, finally dedicating most of the time at 2nd st vintage. the amount of vintage designer stuff just hanging there, unprotected, unlike my hometown consignments locked away. i saw a pair of polka dot proenza schouler snakeskin heels i still think about. i passed on them. ysl stilettos, vivienne westwood tee, miu miu jeans, ugh, i miss them! i couldn't leave empty handed?! i found a see by chloe denim dress and a diesel pencil skirt with zippers on the sides:

sib and i venture south. into jersey city. there we continue sightseeing and checked out mint market, this eccentric, maximalist, over-the-topped, to-the-brim-full consignment store, as i eavesdropped a girl sourcing a chanel and coach bag. we decided not to go crazy. lunch at grove station, filled with locals, everyone knew everyone. sat at high top for two, and guess what - it's happy hour! sib gets a pear martini, i opt for cosmo. high top wobbles, drinks spill. "no worries, girls" says the extremely smiley bartender, we got kamikaze shots for free. damn, life is good. it's sunny, happy hour, eating flatbreads on paper plates. tipsy and full, we decide to venture into new york city. "take the path" bestie nicole says. so easy. stop at the occulus. i explain to sib what the hell the occulus is. honestly, i don't know enough to explain what that it. walk through the 9/11 memorial. laduree for dessert? sib says "i don't want dessert yet. let's go check out the chelsea hotel". back on the train. get off, walk through the neighborhood, dessert at chelsea cafe, let's make the $3 commute worth it. drinks and dessert, the vibes = immaculate. we discuss the history of the chelsea over fragrant drinks. we split a coconut mango sorbet with sesame paste, passionfruit and blueberry jam, sides of chocolate. this is the best dessert i've had in a very long time. drag our tipsy and tired feet back to the train. all the way back to hoboken. walk by the pier, snuggle into the covers, shower and chill. bestie nicole invites us to brooklyn, for drinks, it's a work friend's birthday.  11pm, back onto the train, almost hour commute. i'm nervous, but a pack of girls on the same mission join us waiting for the train. get out in brooklyn. uber-urban, streets filled with graffiti and people, music and food trucks. meet at a bar of undisclosed names. at a terracotta colored couch tall, beautiful people of nicole's posse are sprawled. small talk and a "painkiller" as drink. ending the night "early" as in around midnight. we go back to bestie nicole's place and order taco bell - for redemption. all of us are tired, can barely make conversation. the food arrives and we're devouring. uber back to hoboken. can't be trusted to stay awake on the train.

"david a la coconut" dessert at cafe chelsea

sunday tried to sleep in, as we opted for late check out. our flight is at 8:45pm. we still have all day in hoboken. get up, pack, check out. there's an outdoor market at the pier. sib and i check out the stuff, i want to find a cute souvenir for boyfriend. we buy ourselves some cheap but cute rings. head to jersey city. another man's treasure vintage store. incredibly curated items. i see some polo tops for boyfriend but it's colors he already has. sib says, "get him something that says new jersey of something". next door, kannibal and co. bingo! socks and magnet because boyfriend loves them. meet with bestie nicole for brunch back at hoboken. meet at the market. walk to dear maud. brunch drink special: 2 for the price of 1. hell yes. the frozen hugo and aperol spritz, a bloody maud, and two espresso martinis later. brunch plates were cleared and we spent most of our afternoon spilling tea and beating the dead horse and its mother. another perfect spring day with trees blossoming, we stop once again to jeong's film for photos to remember. grab our luggage, say our goodbyes, and by 6pm sib and i were back at the airport. we split a new york strip, fries and salad, walked around, then passed out on the plane. landed at 10:30pm with boyfriend and cleveland waiting for us.

this week's looks

i returned to my printciples. necessary layers both for unpredictable weather and weekend travel. and obviously, each fit elevated with a print (or two). i tried doing the "sudoku" packing method (some new tiktok trend), describing to pack 3 pairs of bottoms, tops that match everything and necessary essentials. i felt very confident in my packing, but the execution wasn't as good. the amount of prints was too much and too claching. sib's minimalist wardrobe saved me most of the times:
my sudoku method
tiktok sudoku method

monday's work fit: base is pretty much monochrome, two tan tones for pant and top, with sib's chanel espadrilles that i borrowed. plaid print vans flannel top purposely styled around the waist to break up the monotony. sib's uniqlo bag and blue sunnies to add more blue to the equation.

a very distant reference of myscene: jammin' in jamaica dolls for tuesday. white slacks, and a very colorfully patterned pleated blouse. my mom gave me this blouse saying it's "too much and too tacky for her" which is valid, but i get tons of compliments for this blouse and her giant bell sleeves and shades that match a thanksgiving tablecloth. tote from croatia, and a brown puffer jacket because the temperatures were staggeringly low. manifested summertime and thoughts of myself jammin' in jamaica with a gold seashell necklace.

wednesday at work i wore a black top and graphic printed marni skirt. black tights, loafers, and military style jacket, and a pop of red with a kate spade crossbody.

wednesday night - lash lift appointment & window shopping before the trip. red cotton tee, plaid printed pants, loafer flats, double denim with purse and jacket.

walk
work
thursday. major color blocking for work. a distant pucci reference from the renaissance to runway exhibit. dusty blue top, paired with wine colored skirt and an unexpected pop of pink trench. black, blue, pink accessories.
evening walk with a black graphic tee and leggings, plaid shirt and minimal accessories.

friday's work-to-airport look: a band tee from cro, tibi double-waisted culottes, a bright pair of pumas, and a shit ton of bangles. navy uniqlo bag and steve madden sunnies.

friday night out. recently thrifted jeans and top, ralph lauren khaki denim jacket. jessica simpson wedges (side note: my first time wearing them, i was impressed with how comfy they were, let's ignore the fact i had blisters. i blame it on the constant 20,000 steps we've been doing).

sightseeing
nite out
saturday sightseeing. off-shoulder sweater, 2000s jeans, pumas, red bomber jacket, jewelry stack, gold leather hobo bag.
night out. tube top borrowed from sib, 2000s jeans again, flip flops (i'm bold), ralph lauren khaki jacket, jewelry stack and purse.

sunday's look consisted of these trippy sailor jeans, asymmetrical top created by sib, pumas, sib's quarter zip (in case it gets colder), the ralph lauren jacket.

what am i looking forward to this week?

by the time this is published, i have gotten my blondes touched up for summertime. expect a work gala, concert, and great temperatures, but lots of rain.
