3-29-2026 MY WEEK: city girl guide
this week i share my travelogue of sib and mine weekend trip to the columbus' suburbia.
my work bestie recommended sib and i do a weekend trip and visit westerville, a quaint suburb of columbus. sib and i aching to get out the house after such a winter hibernation, we booked a hotel there and decided to leave friday after work, then spend a full day and leave on sunday. while it's not fully spring yet and the first night and morning were cold, no snow or rain caught us at all.
day #1
left a bit late because sib's work dragged on. got a mcdonalds fish filet sandwich and we rode into the sunset, arriving at dusk. as we check in, the front desk girl mentioned a "heated pool". sib and i perked up. neither brought bathing suits. we usually don't utilize amenities and seldom get a hotel that even has a pool. so we drag ourselves to target to grab some necessities, including flip flops and bathing suits. i dreaded every moment of spending for stuff i know i have at home. oh well. we told ourselves, if we don't get to the pool in time, we'll return everything.
heated pool doesn't mean hot tub, but sib and i did multiple laps, being the only ones there, and we stretched our bodies from the 2 and half hour car ride. shower and change, overdress to get an appetizer as dinner at the bar and down some drinks. here we assessed tomorrow's agenda since it's a full day of shopping, sightseeing, etc. it has also bome a tradition to get plastered at the hotel bar since our thanksgiving trip to nyc in 2024.![]() |
| sib had a refreshing spritz, and my 'signature' cocktail tasted a bit like cough medicine. |
breakfast at fox in the snow - a coffee shop boyfriend always goes to when we come down to the area. he demanded we go, and for good reason. the pastries looked out of this world, and the brown sugar latte was phenomenal.
we walked through the main street of westerville, stopping at a couple consignment stores (clothes mentor and deja vu consignments), antique and garden stores. we were mindful with shopping and got a couple accessories and tops. more about that toward the end. as we were getting ready for our next destination, we realized the town was being filled left and right with protestors for the huge no kings protest. my red beret, sib said, felt guerilla-like and fitting for the occasion, and my car horn was my way of showing support (even though sib got nervous about having to drive through the crowd).
we went to the franklin conservatory and botanical garden, which was beautiful and even had an art exhibit. the butterflies were beautiful and it became warm enough to walk around the park and watch the trees bloom.onto the next portion, possibly my fave: easton. this outdoor mall-town was crazy! our legs were aching, but each store got a visit from us. francesca's last day sale before closing (we wouldn't've known - our local francesca's closed years ago), a lip combo treat from mac, window shopping at designer boutiques where we got compliments on our looks in hopes we'd give in and spend $5000 on a fur coat, lunch at brio: beef carpaccio and a margherita flatbread, and cocktails that tasted like the 2000s. discover the last standing macy's (our also closed a few years ago). spritz every perfume in our sight, check out the backstage sale (a sensory nightmare) - then end the sightseeing day by wandering around ikea.
back to the hotel for a brief swim. this was barely possible with a rowdy group of teenage boys who were screaming and jumping on each other. at one point they jumped on the chair that we left our stuff at. that was my cue to get out. finally, we ended the pool time when one of the boys appeared with a tiny soccer ball. nope, not risking getting hit on the head by those twats. relocate to the bar where i switched up my cocktail order, a pear infused one that was a delight. i had one more and got perfectly drunk.
day #3
wake up perfectly refreshed and early! visit the clintonville neighborhood which i discovered with boyfriend last year. breakfast at dough mama with another phenomenal coffee and a cheddar and green onion biscuit. walk through the best antique stores in the area: boomerang room, the atomic shop, eclectiques mall, the brass hand, and euro classics. the weather was perfectly warm and sunny, the day was ideal for such a nice walk. legs were stretched and steps were in to hit the road.
on the road again. final stop, gas break and the mandatory grandpa's cheese barn and sweetie's chocolates stop to replenish on the perfect driving-home snacks. this time we got some easter treats, veggie chips, chive cheese curds, and peppery jerky.

| past meets present display |
for months i've been obsessed with this mannequin display at the past meets present consignment shop. because of it, i thrifted two vintage blouses with similar victorian detailing. finally, i wore my own interpretation (sans jimmy choo shoes obviously). vintage top, a ton of necklaces, and moto jacket. ralph lauren jeans, moto boots and patchwork tote added on. sunday's sightseeing and drive home.
