1-18-2026 MY WEEK: spotted - the color rhythm

are you feeling the twitch of cabin fever? the weeks are looking dull, and i am trying to keep busy with reading and watching movies in the afternoon.

we got snowed in on thursday - like i got to work from home! i used the opportunity to get my nails done (as promised) in between supervisions and paperwork.

since it's been months since i did my nails, i wanted a simpler design but still maximalist. had my nails shorter. i was a bit rusty, but overall, very satisfied with the outcome! and i really thought i wasn't going to fall victim of the polka dot trend.

you guys can see that sib and i have been using out indoor time to experiment on makeup, we also resorted to trying hairstyles.

i bought french pins a year or two ago - for when i finally do my breakfast at tiffany's costume. and i also find it so chic! *i am so going to go off tangent for a minute: i know i said chic was a word that was out for me in 2026, but my spirit guide sib enlightened me: why can't everything be chic? charli xcx sings that everything is romantic, and we all want to romanticize everything in these restless times. sib has a good point, this could be beneficial for our mental state, to remind ourselves of the positivity around us. we need to continue saying chic and scorchin' and glamorous and ooh la la and --

okay. okay. back to the french pins. my hair - my poor straight hair. it does nothing.it holds nothing. no volume, no curl. a french pin falls out, no matter how many tutorials and how many angles i've got an eye on.

sib and her luscious locks managed to hold a french twist, though! and was i jealous.

we practiced a bit, and she managed to shove the rods in my head once where it felt not-loose. i tried practicing the french twist, failed perfectly each time. i whined to sib, because i don't know how to braid and now i can't do this either. hair-wise, i am truly lost. i compensate with hats and accessories. hairstyles were never my thing. no matter how much hairspray i use - these strands stay straight.

nevertheless, friday night before dinner with boyfriend (just the casual chinese buffet again), sib and i played around again and we tested it out. the french twist stayed on. for all of dinner. it's on while i type up this draft. i'm elated!

maybe a bit messier than sib's but firm and secured
cocktail of the week:
boyfriend brought over a random pineapple one day. i got the cutest dessert cocktail book for christmas from my work bestie, so i followed a recipe for a mango rum cocktail with pineapple instead: triple sec, white rum, some sugar, lime juice, pineapple chunks, ice. put all in blender and mix. felt like vacation for a bit.
here's a curious menswear color combo. boyfriend's color blocking friday. a bob ross ugly christmas sweater, grey with red and blue details. grey sweatpants and red and blue socks. wear or tear, people?
check our sib's latest sewing project: sustainable and chic. sib used leftover scrap from previous projects to create a funky patchwork pattern hobo bag.

here's ways i'd style this bag. if i'm being honest though - we may see it in my weekly fits next post already.

this week's looks

last week, we had no skirts in the weekly look segment. was i subconsciously choosing skirts this week then? i was almost enjoying this little trend - until friday when the temps tanked and the snow got too high for any comfort. listen - i stayed home a lot. we're entering negative temp zone. fun's over!
monday i chose metallic, bright ruby red, and black as my color combination. knit sweater and my mom's metallic bubble skirt, ombre red calzedonia tights (bought years ago, finally out of its packaging), steve madden boots, metallic tote, puffer jacket, versace sunnies and earmuffs. jewelry to match the color scheme.

best buy
work

tuesday for work i took inspiration from high fashion frump - and layered in true bluesday fashion. had to go to best buy in the evening, so i found inspiration in my pre-teen days. simple, and still elevated.

wednesday for work - another red and greyscale moment, more skirts and boots. i ended up layering another light cardigan because we were expecting a snowstorm.

snowstorm was right. we skip thursday because it was a snow day (pj's only!) and friday i wore mid wash skinny jeans, high boots, grey ralph lauren top, puffy down coat and a crochet colorful scarf (just so the look isn't that dull)

friday's dinner look was sophisticated casual-ness. nothing elaborate - other than my french twist as the real star accessory.

what am i looking forward to next week?

with the über-cold temps approaching, i've equipped myself with my book, blog topics to research, and a good exercise routine at home. but fret not - this hibernation is predicted to last only for another week. i've got plans lined up soon...
