1-11-2026 MY FAVES: "if we didn't love fashion, we'd be naked"

 movies of the week

the quote on this week's faves title is exclaimed by uma thurman, into the cameras of loïc prigent  - the prometheus of fashion, bringing his lenses to the pantheons of the gods of fashion - their houses and the inner workings of the creative directors - for the everyman to see.
this week sib and i watched the documentary led by prigent, marc jacobs and louis vuitton, which documents the concievement of the inspiration, and birth of jacobs' spring 2007 collections for both brands through anecdotes, humor, education, and lack of sleep.

marc jacobs spring/summer 2007.
the show was a rough one for marc.
the first model's shoes were so bad she took them off during her walk.
two dresses apparently never made it on the runway

louis vuitton spring/summer 2007
janet and pharrell in their front row seats.
destiny works wonders - he is now the men's creative director

the iconic tribute patchwork bag.
only 28 made to order (27 sold out immediately).
at the time of the film was worth $35,000.
found a sold one on 1st dibs for about $41,000

it was cool seeing the shoe process for both brands

feeling the fashionista spirit, sib and i binge watched our childhood fave - bratz - which you can too, on youtube for free. the animated series' humor is actually a-tier and here lie some amazing quotes, whether by burdine maxwell or the bratz themselves "mother of pink!". while i knew bratz were made as a response to barbie, a reddit post enlightened me that burdine maxwell = barbara millicent, and the tweevils were direct parodies of the pink barbie stereotype. a bit ironic considering the "iphone face" of today resembles our bratz girls a lot, don't you think?

and, if nothing else, the fashion in the series is great for replicating:

books of the week

not necessarily book, but i was reading this interview from loïc prigent's blog, fashion moodboard, with marc jacobs, years after the documentary above, titled marc jacobs, how he created the most incredible louis vuitton shows in paris.

the french really championed and celebrated foreigners as long as they had something great to say. (marc jacobs)

but I think in all fairness, i'm a francophile. i've always been a francophile. i love the french. i love paris. and it's it's just the way it's always been for me. (marc jacobs)

i'm really working on reading big chunks of belle du seigneur. i think we all need to read giant books of the greats - to tackle the illiteracy epidemic and return our attention span back to something normal.

music of the week

this week's discoveries were a retro-based mix of everything possible, from lo-fi nuns to songs about drugs as love, or was it love for drugs? take a listen at these top fives of the week:
prescription refill - alex cameron
the foot that's holding me down - charles murphy
mass 'emmanuel' - sister irene o'connor
i want it all - queen
carmen, act 1 - the match club remix (from emily in paris season 1 soundtrack)
