9-21-2025 MY INSPO: british vogue's f/w 2025 trends
a really cool fashion blog i've been following, paper doll sammy, just posted her take on the key f/w 2025 trends. i got inspired, and wanted to do a take of my own.
british vogue recently identified some key words that will be big this fall. quite frankly, i feel like some of these have been a trend for some time. i see nothing wrong with this actually. let's see some stability rather than constant turning of trends. how will some of these trends evolve throughout our years and the fast fashion buzzwords?
high-fashion frump
the frumpiness, the layers. i'm thinking coastal grandma, high fashion grandma, meets crunchy girl.
for this look, i styled this recently thrifted chanel tee, with a long denim skirt (a la mormon?). adding on a plaid shirt with various shades of blue, black leather briefcase and lacquered loafers. hipsterized it with the accessories. fyi: i'm forcing a beanie comeback this fall.
catchphrase
perhaps this came back with the rebirth of tumblr 2012-2014 era, now that it passed it's ten year mark and is most likely cycling back. think bold statements (obey, supreme, swag, etc). i chose this kesha tee i got at her concert over the summer, that says boy crazy (eluding to one of her tracks). the shirt is graphic - i mean, her giving a blowjob to a banana and and a dude standing there. i was actually unaware of this until i saw a tiktok of someone who bought the same shirt - they too had no idea until after they bought it. choosing ripped bellbottoms, cartier glasses, a bright red beret to match the vlajternativa tote - another catchphrase! if it's still as nice as it currently is, these sandals could still stay in season for a bit.
earn your stripes
i wanted to switch up from the classic blue and white stripes, or zebra print. i have this chocolate blouse with subtle stripes. i'd style it with these low rise jeans sib brought back from our mom's closet, and would pair it with this coach wristlet and low heel booties.
tailoring 2.0
every woman needs a well-tailored set in their closet. i'm blessed with multiple suit and skirt suit sets from our mom's (from the 90s and 2000s department stores). my own recent acquisition is this tibi set with an illusion of double pants. i chose two types of shoes (for a day-to-night look) - being target loafers, and my manolo kitten heels.
undone elegance
i interpreted this as a way to show some skin - elegantly: high slit wool maxi skirt from the 50s and this asymmetrical lace top sib bought in croatia this spring. fisherman shoes, silver jewelry, and this mini bag sib sewed.
anti-algorithm dressing
a reinterpretation of some older pieces, and how they could serve more than just a one-and-done purpose. this bright orange top - a simple tee, with some 2000s design (coming back strong actually), cropped jeans - instead of buying new capris? heel loafers, a classic leather crossbody, and a skinny scarf. this military jacket was a secondhand gift that i am excited to wear - utility first!
faux fur
i don't believe in purchasing faux fur items. i don't believe in buying brand new real fur. but when thrifting - i will rather spend on real vintage fur than a cheaper imitation. i do have this faux fur vest that i got as a gift (also secondhand) years ago, and has served well during transitional weather. layering it with an all black outfit would make it stand out. and then a grunge twist with a croc imitation wristlet, giant oscar de la rent sunnies, a grey beret and my trusty converse.
punk feel
this look was a no brainer. i chose my vlajternativa merch, ripped bellbottoms, doc martens boots. added some jewelry (including vivienne westwood pearl necklace), a twist on the classic punk detail of a black jacket with pins: a black blazer with thrifted brooches. adding a pink camo bandana.
nomadic spirit
a look that would not be complete without a fringe jacket. bohemian, boho - style looks have been coming back, perhaps in a tone-deaf way, considering the social issues specifically regarding our immigrant and native people who solidified this fashion, that us white people, fully gentrified. once during the hippy era, now during the coachella era. here is my own interpretation of a boho look. distressed white tee, pattern maxi skirt, a gemstone ring and gold hoops, black headband and tortoise shell sunnies. military boots and this stone encrusted clutch purse.
modern prep
a new take on the academia look, less restrained and tailored, with some fun details. white polo top, rachel zoe pants, and ralph lauren houndstooth blazer (prep=ralph lauren always). loafer heels and a twist in the cap. double finger ring with cameo, for that academia touch
maximalism for minimalists
i took this as a way to make a simple black tee and jeans look pop off without too much fuss. i added a pop of color - this yellow raincoat (welcome back, coraline), black beanie, simple jewelry and fisherman shoes and the marginal replica tote. classic marginal does minimalism like no one else.
lingerie dressing
unlike the general trend of wearing lingerie slip dresses, i own none - but remember - i invested in cute black bralettes. so i took a tumblr-esque twist in this interpretation: gym tee with the bralette peeking. added some accessories. looking at this now i can see how influenced i was by the tumblr grunge: moon earrings, rose print tote and those sunglasses.
curious color combinations
this was a new one for me. we haven't seen the color blocking resurgence yet (was the last time in 2016/17 that it was big, and actually successful?). i tried not to play it safe, and chose a red and blue combination. i am curious to try out this one. i'm hoping i won't look like a popsicle though...
this was super fun to do, and i hope that in the fall, i'll brave myself to try these looks on.
