7-6-2025 MY WEEK: red, white, blue in the sky...

ever since i've moved back to this country, i am reminded of how bitter it feels to enjoy fireworks and hot dogs in the name of freedom, when every summer, the news sounds nightmarish. i'd like to think that celebration can be hopeful too, not always ignorant. i may enjoy a saucy hot dog and watch boyfriend shoot off fireworks, but i don't forget those who were victimized by this regime. so much of our youth is extremely radicalized and hoping and wanting to change the world for the better, and that's the america i am still searching for. i see the hope for better future in my friends, with whom i got to celebrate by the pool. i see it in the all-american backyard surrounded by people who hold no prejudice, only are happy to listen to sublime on full blast, and enjoy good tequila and burgers, and rounds of volleyball in the dark. i see it in the diverse crowd of young and old, enjoying the various colorful fireworks around town. i see the hope in the individuals i serve, that sing firework by katy perry, or even the national anthem, on wednesday karaoke night.

on this week's menu were not only hot dogs, but good sushi, local ice cream, and sib's newest chocolate chip recipe (straight from neiman marcus). the drink of choice was hugo spritz - st. germain, prosecco, and seltzer with mint garnish. not sure if a beatbox counts as a cocktail, but it was dangerous... the hangover was brutal.

maybe late for some star spangled nails, but i did a cute baby blue/butter yellow mix with a chrome edged star. the other hand is color-inverted: completely yellow with blue in the star.

looks of the week

a good graphic t shirt with some personalization, like cropping it (studio ghibli), making it off-shoulder (led zeppelin), or removing the sleeves (coca cola), is a wonderful way to personalize my many thrifted tops.

monday for work i wore a studio ghibli t shirt with a pencil skirt and flats. went to the library to report to you all for duty, appropriately wearing camo shorts, birkenstocks and my trusty tote.

tuesday i wore a black t shirt and alvin klein denim salmon pink skirt. i actually wore my sandals first but they broke at work. so i swapped with flats. as if i need more reasons to buy shoes...
wednesday i was one with the band. we had a 4th of july party for the clients, and what's more american than denim and bruce springsteen? paired with lollipop earrings and loafer flats.
for afternoon karaoke wit the clients, i wore the newly thrifted led zeppelin (oops, british, but their usa tour?), more denim.
thursday i worked a weird half day - and went to one location wearing a cream colored 3/4 sleeve silk blouse with plaid pants and sandals. then worked from home, then change into a knit cami, tibi pants and the loafers. finally, in the evening sib and i went grocery shopping (by grocery we mean ice cream), wore the same knit top and calvin klein shorts. i always go with my chic totes. more fashionable than plastic bags.

friday for the fourth of july party at bestie vic's, i wore a skims maxi dress in a grey/olive shade, but was mostly only in bikini.
sib wanted to dress up and watch fireworks. i really wanted to wear this colorful maxi skirt but was struggling to style it, and i happened to stumble upon a bratz doll style analysis i think i did months ago for the blog. with some adjustments and accessory additions, i was very thankful for my silly hobby.
saturday's 4th of july festivities continued, and sib and i got brunch at fiona's in dtw. wore a knit blue top and bdg shorts from urban outfitters. newly thrifted tropical purse, and not pictured were birkenstocks.
later, sloshed, i'm wearing a coca cola t shirt (american enough?), black shorts and birkenstocks. i later changed into long flowy sweats but i can't really remember that far into the night.

what am i looking forward to this week?

i should be going back to dtw saturday morning to see an old friend for coffee and catching up, so i am really excited to be out and about for some delicious coffee. if you're at fiona's i recommend the coconut mocha (if you're a coconut fan). it's my summertime fave. and you didn't hear it here first, but friends don't let friends drink starbucks.
