6-8-2025 MY FAVES: a pop girl summer renaissance

 books of the week

i'm slowly on the last 200 pages of great tales of horror by h.p. lovecraft. and still, the stories are haunting but the racism is much scarier. i can't even mention what the cat's name is in his story the rats in the walls

music of the week

it's already an exciting month for the pop girlies' highly anticipated albums, and there's more coming our way. this week marina and the diamonds and addison rae released their albums: princess of power and addison, respectively.
i've loved marina since her electra heart era, and i was looking forward to this album because i really loved the single cuntissimo. besides this one, here's songs i really liked from this album:
princess of power, je ne sais quoi, i <3 you, and final boss.
i have a love-hate relationship with addison rae and whether she is "performative" and her vibe is true to her spirit (how chronically online is this sentence even?). i never cared for her tik tok days, and i am unimpressed by her attempts to become a style icon. however, diet pepsi is going to be found on my spotify wrapped 100%. aquamarine is also a hit she teased all of last summer but released it only in the fall. i wish she would've released it last summer because it is such a perfect summer time song. i listened to her album and it sounds unique - which i am glad because i'm sick of references. her  songs new york  and fame is a gun were my new faves off the album. as much as i'm getting industry plant vibes from her, and the fact that she reposted anti black stuff during the blm movement, i know we'll be seeing her on the scene a lot more. whether we like it or not. could the potential be there? i believe so. but i'm not going to be quick enough to call her a fashion icon, or icon at all, just yet. but if you see me jamming to diet pepsi - let me be.
