i love the busy-ness of summer, but i'm struggling to find time to type up my blogs, so forgive me for the late posts. between local festivals, days spent at the pool, and our annual community garage sale, i was just everywhere this week. on top of that, i still find myself doomscrolling and keeping myself up-to-date with everything going on in the world.
i guess that there is still an invincible magic of summer. among all the protests, news of injustice inflicted on people left and right, and just hopeless news online, i found myself blasting summer hits last wednesday morning. always 15 minutes late to my job that is so close i could walk to it, i had the window down, and the sun was beating in spite of the canadian wild fires creating a movie-like haze. the song music sounds better with you was playing, my summer fave. i waved at a neighbor walking her dog, and i passed a girl wearing heart-shaped sunglasses, walking and clearly enjoying her music in her headphones. at that moment, the lyrics love might bring us back together felt more than just funky disco vibes and the urge to down a mojito. this time it felt hopeful, and for a moment i felt my brutal cynicism, hate and judgment melt away in the heat.
i went to two local festivals this week: one sunday night and one friday. sunday was the st gabe's church festival: and i experienced the death of the corn dog - it was nowhere to be found! the festival staple, greasy but filling, just the right amount of bread vs protein ratio - alongside condiments of one's choice, usually sold from one of those lit up, colorful stands that serve much more. one might ask how do they fit all that deep-fry material and not blow up? what i did see during the st. gabe's festival though, was fusion food. did fusion kill the classics?! i am always open to experiencing new foods, and i will not shy from the boldest combinations. but do not take away the classic, my god-given american right to enjoy a corn dog. i satisfied myself with pierogi's and greasy fries while downing them in a slushie form of what was supposed to be a daiquiri.

friday night i saw my festival messiah among the blinding lights of the strawberry festival. almost camouflaged and tucked but right in the middle of the action, there hid the corn dog stand. thank god, i might've exclaimed. that was my dinner. i will continue to report and investigate whether the dog will become extinct...
saturday was a rainy garage sale day. it was nice to purge and finally, for once, be on the other end of a garage sale. now, sib and i didn't sell much but boyfriend got particularly lucky. the rest of our stuff got donated to goodwill and some stuff was set aside for my clients.
sunday we went back to our roots to celebrate the festivity of st anthony at the croatian hall. mass was long, and the day was hot and sunny. sib got sunburnt, but we had a blast socializing and sipping on gemišt. here's a question for the culture: does gemišt, a traditional mixed drink of white wine and sparkling water, count as a cocktail?
sunday night we met with bestie victoria for a quick bite at barrio, and i tried another cocktail there: proud peach tea: tea infused reposado, peach puree, and fruity pebble rim. all cocktail purchases go to the trevor project, so i felt happy about the cause, but the cocktail itself did not impress me. tequila cereal is a brave choice.
looks of the week
this week's looks were based on utility, comfort, and fit for movement. sib and i did some walks, and i did yoga at work for my clients, so my looks needed to be moveable, and breathable while they also presented with simplicity. on the fun events like dinners and festivals, i had more liberty for something short and revealing, still, comfort is there. also, i am noticing an i❤... trend.
sunday night we had time to check out the st gabe's festival, and i wore a simple white cotton top, and my mom's old jeans. not pictured were the chunky shoes and my tote bag. sib and i went on a walk after the festival where i just swapped the pants for legging shorts and my skechers.
monday for work i wore a simple lbd and a red cardigan, and doc's. for my afternoon walk, black legging shorts and my i❤italia t shirt.
tuesday for work i wore my work t shirt and off-white ralph lauren jeans. kept it business casual.
wednesday for work i wore a knit black top and knit olive sweatpants, and my zara sandals - outdoor yoga was a success among the clients! it was a poolside afternoon and i mostly wore a mismatched bubblegum/matcha bikini, but my cover up was a hawaiian style button down purchased a couple years ago for my florida trip at the walmart men's section. the yellow shorts are from urban outfitters. tote is margiela replica. sunglasses are versace which i borrowed from sib.
thursday for work i did not, again, shy away from light colored pants, this time paired with a whimsy printed pleated tank and matching blouse. usually i button the blouse but this time i left it like a cover-up and it looked much better. sib and i had garden errands to run so i wore my hand-painted t shirt alongside swats and my birkenstocks.
friday for work i wore a thrifted striped ralph lauren butter yellow blouse (possibly men's), long american eagle wide jeans and my converse. had to run errands the late afternoon and i wore my i ❤ ny crop top, high waisted j crew shorts, and my birkenstocks and tote of choice (margiela). for the strawberry festival, the rain cooled everything own so i wore a v-neck 3/4 tan sweater, but chose a wool uber-mini skirt. not pictured here is the cutest umbrella i got at a garage sale. and my shoes were my classic doc's. saturday for our community garage sale i wore a black cotton tank top, some stretchy tan pants, and my birkenstocks. sunday for the st anthony festivities (and celebrating father's day), i wore a bright red dkny skirt set, and thrifted kitten wedges. currently in search for new ones, the leather is falling off these ones :( for dinner with bestie victoria i wore a forever 21 grey tube top i purchased right before they closed, colorful h&m skirt i got secondhand, and zara flats. i wore the same secondhand leather crossbody purse to both spots.
what am i looking forward to this week?
i'm on a hunt for some kitten-wedges this week, and i'll retire these exhausted thrifted ones. i'm going to a bachelorette party saturday night, and am brainstorming various fits depending on the dress code. beside the random rainstorms we usually get, i plan to sit beside the pool and finally finish that book i'm stuck with all month... the hot weather and reasons to be out and about got me inspired for some fun looks.
