i haven't been listening or discovering new things, but with the books i've been reading this week, britney spears  and zayn are on my repeat. 

books of the week

i read svjedok pokojnih early this week, and made my way over to a memoir that needs celebrating this women's history month: the woman in me by britney spears, was digested in two nights. this was a simple but captivating read about britney's fame and struggles with relationships, paparazzi, and family. when britney shaved her head, it was such a pivotal memory of my childhood. how scrutinized she was by the media, and how heartbreaking it is that we find out the full story decades later. earlier in the month, when sib and i watched the amy documentary about amy winehouse, i thought that amy's father and britney's were very similar in ways, toward their daughters. both men pretty much out of the picture (or at least minimally supportive), but coming back when the girls are in their 20s and incredibly successful. 

i am now onto another book by another artist dear to me, zayn - by zayn. a book with his photoshoots, song analyses, and even his recollection of leaving one direction and how this made him feel. he is also a huge talent thrown into the public eye, and also scrutinized by the media and struggled with being a man of color, and not being able to express himself honestly and creatively. this is a visually stunning book and zayn is the most beautiful man on earth (when will they give him that title - do we have to even compare him to someone like blake shelton?!). 

movies of the week

i've watched nothing lately. i am waiting for the michael jackson biopic trailer and date when it's coming out to the movies because i am an mj fan through and through. he will always be the king of pop and he deserves the hype. i just saw a tiktok last night, describing that human nature (one of my fave mj songs) was sampled 81 times. let's give credit where credit is due!
