9-13-2026 MY FAVES: playlist director - sib

 what i'm watching...

sib and i finished the vampire diaries season 1, and we already borrowed season 2 from the library. welcome, katherine pierce...

what i'm listening to...

this week, sib is the blog's playlist director. sib compiled a variety of songs for us. the number one song was dolly parton's berry pie, which she has been obsessing over probably since dolly died. let's be real though, she loved it when it was trending online too.
the playlist continues on with some classic croatian hits: severina, magazin, and e.n.i. as classic girl bops, jacques houdek aka croatia's mariah carey, and rajko dujmić, a pillar of croatian pop music.
after seve, we slow down with some cool tunes: bonnie and clyde by brigitte bardot and serge gainsbourg, erase/rewind by the cardigans, the good kind by the wreckers (straight from the one tree hill soundtrack), policy of truth - depeche mode, and candy perfume girl by madonna. is that an ode to her birthday gift, the carolina herrera good girl jasmine perfume?
the playlist ends on a high, with justin bieber's love me

what i'm reading...

i'm making dents in the grapes of wrath, which feels fitting during super-hot days. while the women in the books feel very stereotyped, my fave parts are the intermission chapters giving the reader a perspective on society during this time, giving little vignettes of used car lots and shady practices, people selling all their belongings for much less than their worth. and the philosophies of nihilism and communism peppered through (steinbeck was redlisted and this book was banned in many schools).
it's not us, it's the bank. a bank isn't like a man. or an owner with fifty thousand acres, he isn't like a man either. that's the monster.

sure, cried the tenant men, but it's out land. we measured it and broke it up. we were born on it, and we got killed on it, died on it. even if it's no good, it's still ours. that's what makes it ours - being born on it, working it, dying on it. that makes ownership, not a paper with numbers on it.

we're sorry. it's not us. it's the monster. the bank isn't like a man.

yes, but the bank is only made of men.

no, you're wrong there - quite wrong there. the bank is something else than men. it happens that every man in a bank hates what the bank does, and yet the bank does it. the bank is something more than men, i tell you. it's the monster. men made it, but they can't control it.
