1-25-2026 MY FAVES: great love affairs and pixie raves

 books of the week

i am officially halfway through belle du seigneur!  we're fully engulfed into the great love affair, and it's sickly and icky, and deep and ridiculous. how bad can it get?

movies of the week

now we're fixated on just bratz content: continuing watching the animated show (the 3-part episodes on their trip to paris is one of the best ones), and the movie fashion pixiez. i need to go to a dark pixie rave asap. the entire movie is so unserious though. my only explanation is that dylan got roofied and then roofied the whole school during the dance. that's my ending to the story.

music of the week

speaking of fashion pixie raves, here's what i would play if i was the dark pixie dj:

the perfect girl - mareux
running out of you - keep shelly in athens
believe - cher
duvet - bȏa
violence (rezz remix) - grimes
disturbia - rihanna
imagining - rina sawayama
tarantula - azaelia banks
monster - lady gaga
hidden place - björk
butterfly - smile.dk
in other musical news, one direction fans are being fed left and right, with new content, music, and tours.
first, zayn malik is performing at his las vegas residency for the rest of the month. the only luck i've got is watching clips from his concert on tiktok.
second, harry styles announced his new album kiss all the time. disco, occasionally, and released the first single aperture. goodbye to the lovely locks of our childhood, we see a more rugged look of a more mature harry. the music video pulls numerous references to the david bowie and trent reznor hit i'm afraid of americans. harry dips into the indie sleaze bucket of inspiration, with a beat that's very dance-punk revival-ish, many (including myself) comparing it lcd soundsystem, not techno or super-fast bpm, but definitely 2000s alt disco. loving that new turn. harry's house, the previous album, was heavily inspired by haruomi hosono and 80s japanese avant garde. i can't wait to see the "new direction" of this upcoming album. a tour already announced under the name together together, with openers like robyn, jamie xx, and fcukers dancing at the club might be saved, after all.

finally, louis tomlinson (my fave member) finally released his album how did i get here? critics state that this album was his strongest so far, with evolved vocals, and confidence in his music videos.
*side note: the one direction boys truly love a bizarre music video, such as night changes, best song ever, steal my girl. they focus on a more ironic, artistic, and often humorous touch. check out lemonade by louis, and even the previously mentioned aperture, alongside other harry videos (music for a sushi restaurant).
louis has proven his talent for strong lyricism back during his one direction era, being one of the prime songwriters for the band. his direction for a more punk rock sound is suiting well. i am super excited to see him this summer during his tour.
