9-28-2025 MY INSPO: hispanic heritage style icons and an ideal tie collection
hispanic heritage style icons
in honor of hispanic heritage month (sept 15 - oct 15), i figured i'd share some fave style icons that are of hispanic heritage.
jenna ortega. she is of puerto rican and mexican descent. our gen z scream queen, and a lover of the art of film, she seems to be a very serious icon in the making - talented and stylish. she is seen here at the emmy's red carpet, wearing sarah burton's givenchy f/w 2025 broken chandelier dress. many compared it to isabella rossellini in death becomes her. while i no longer have netflix, wednesday addams season 2 sounds super exciting this fall.
penelope cruz. javier bardem. i've been interested in watching some pedro almodovar films, and look forward to watching penelope cruz in her prime. bardem's statement at the emmy's boldly calling for a ceasefire in gaza was powerful - love the keffiyeh. these two just seem like an ideal power couple - a gene pool in the win.
paloma elsesser. father of chilean descent (does it still count??). anyways, style icon, underrated top model - face card lethal. considered a plus size model, and first plus size model to win model of the year in 2023. she was discovered by pat mcgrath on instagram, and was on the cover of the vogue adria april 2025 issue (one that i own).
pedro pascal. this dude just seems so positive. kind of like a new tom hanks? admitting right now i don't think i've seen any of his films - other than the miu miu short film house comes with a bird alongside singer kelsey lu and actress i adore, natasha lyonne.
frida kahlo. obsessed with her since high school. i know this woman would hate the consumerism of today - especially merch of herself. her floral and feminine looks, the unibrow, and her dressed in drag as a man - her closet is truly versatile. can we bring back flower crowns in a frida kahlo kind of way?
other than her fabulous style, her artwork is heartbreaking and haunting but so beautiful and colorful. her story is one so heartbreaking as well. a rarity of artists among those international male names.
manolo blahnik. shoe designer often mentioned in context of carrie bradshaw. the documentary the boy who made shoes for lizards is one i am yet to watch. i own a pair of manolo black and cream kitten heels, but i am itching to look for more vintage beauties on therealreal - to broaden the heights. above you will see a pair of the newest manolo collection - one directly inspired by marie antoinette. rest in peace marie antoinette, you'd love his shoes.
shakira. it would be sinful not to mention the woman with the most amazing hips ever! a style icon for me from an early age: sib and i owned a shakira barbie doll from her wherever, whenever era - i believe her fit was even inspired by the music video. from some cousins i got a best of cd with some bangers that are still on my repeat. let us forget any tax fraud controversies for a minute...
art of ties
i found some pretty cool printed, diy-ed and up cycled ties over the past few weeks online. new thing to start collecting i fear?
