7-6-2025 MY INSPO: totally jammin' gadgets...

felt digitally analog, boyfriend got me a cd player/alarm clock that's basically brand new, but totally feels like waking up in 2011. appropriately, i put in my one direction up all night album, and when the first notes of what makes you beautiful woke me up last week, i was almost sure i transported to the last week of 7th grade.

i'm a slut for physical media, i don't discriminate. i got a collection of vinyls, mostly second-hand or vintage. up until last year, i had a very chic and sleek honda accord from 2007, that only had a cd player. my power outlet for the phone adapter fucked up and i never felt like fixing it. so i've accumulated a plethora of cd's. not to mention my complete one direction discography collected from many birthdays ago by my best mother, a burnt lady gaga the fame monster cd, and a lot of early 5sos ep's

i was determined - this is the only way to wake up - i mean, literally rise and shine. so i went on a hunt for a cd rack at the local thrift stores. sib and i are unsure still - the one we found at goodwill didn't have a tag and it housed some cd's, was just for display? the store clerk gave no bother and rung it up for $3. i also found an ancient ihome speaker but the charging port is so ancient i couldn't even think of a way to convert that to today's standard chargers.

with more room for future cd's and now fuel for another collection, here's my bed stand, complete with a gossip girl spinoff i'll talk more about in my faves segment.

i, like many on the realms of the internet, crave and yearn for a lost nostalgia of "simpler times". now, we're greedy bastards with one phone for calculator, pager, alarm clock, and beyond tech - it's a book, and a "friend" in many cases (looking at you chat gpt).

but what about the beauty of detangling our headphones? the special grittiness of flash photos with a camera (even a digi cam is the new nostalgic hype - guilty as charged). what about putting in the effort to create the best mixtape or cd? playing games on the game boy instead? sib and i will occasionally still feed our nintendogs...

i'm always challenging myself to digitally detox - but not in the way of complete cold turkey offline. just the return of curfews for the internet, bringing back delayed gratification. like even my blog is a challenge - with no working laptop i challenge myself a couple hours at the library to sit at the computer, and hope a stranger isn't judging my writing. and the blog itself is representing the lost times before everything was an ad, or influenced. when the vibes matter, not 5 minutes of fame and virality and ever changing trends.
i carry my digital camera to each function, and those photographs have a candidness my iphone cannot replicate.
now i make sure to wake up with the crackling sound of the radio or an ancient cd.
my mp3 that sib brought back - was totally going to into use, but the headphone part is super fucked up so the sound is like inverted? but i'm finding ways to log off more - and stop giving the spotify ceo my money. next up, dvd player and a funky colored ipod? think of me when you're at the tech aisle of goodwill.

in other nostalgic news, sib and i jammed in jamaica with the myscene crew. no need for a lot of intro, if you were a cool girl, you knew that myscene was a bratzification of barbie to help mattel compete with mgm's cuntroversial bratz. sib and i were not judgmental, we were eternal bratz girlies but myscene dolls were impeccable.
they had 3 movies come out - jammin' in jamaica was one - it came along with the dolls we proudly owned.
sib was craving for summer outfit inspo, and we tapped into pure beachy nostalgia with this cute movie.
i decided to share with you some looks i tried styling from my own closet - a myscene style analysis.

barbie in the soggy donut scene. while there's not lots of full body pics of these animated icons, barbie wears a denim mini skirt and some sandal wedges. to match with her, i'd wear a red cami under this linen button down shirt and my calvin klein denim skirt, accessorized with this tie dye bucket hat and my sandal wedges that are, unfortunately, currently falling apart.
a tricky look from delancey - a bikini top, floral skirt, also probably wearing some sandals, and a green jacket. i was truly matching color more than perhaps style - i think if we lost the cardigan i matched, this could be a fun beachy look.

simple, but effective from character nolee - blue halter, cargo pants, and a visor hat. man, i used to fuck with visor hats when i was a kid. now, i think this could be a super-doable look - dusty blue tube top, khaki cargo's and no visor, but a blue/green tie dye baseball cap. to elevate this look, i styled my asos black sandal heels.

to show you all the myscene dolls from my old collection, we owned babrie (middle), and to recreate this look, i'd wear my max mara body suit, cream colored maxi skirt from forever 21, silver wedges, and instead of a flower i'm really looking for ways to incorporate this floral bandana. i kind of think the two striking designs could actually work.

we also owned the nolee doll, on the right from barbie. her look was much sportier than the rest, so i chose to style my rolling stones baby tee with baggy denim shorts, golden claw clip, red flats from bershka and replica tote.

while we're on style analyses, i thought of doing something new since it's a new month. i wanted to share my top 10 looks from last month, that i personally wore.
