7-20-2025 MY WEEK: the art of dance and dress up games

this week, i drape myself mostly in swimwear to lounge on bitten pool noodles and take naps in the sun, by our pool. therapy during the work days.

briefly mentioned in my faves entry this week was our visit to the drive-in movies, where we watched dirty dancing and grease. the atmosphere couldn't have been better, and the number of snacks we ate couldn't have been larger. but it did inspire us to tap into the dancer in us.
i love to dance. i am not good at dancing, but with a good group and a drink or two, i become shameless. sib and i are looking into taking dance lessons, because we as a society have stopped dancing - well, or even at all. is society too worried about how we will be perceived that even silly dancing became taboo? if the recession is coming back, we at least need to bring back dancing - it's all we have left. dancing costs us nothing.

funny enough, we had a bonfire on friday, and bestie victoria was mentioning how she went to a ballroom dance performance and was just as inspired to take lessons. i then met sib's coworker at her friend's wedding the following day, who told us how he took ballroom dance in college.
while i believe that we don't necessarily need to pay to enjoy dancing along music, i think we need to release those inhibitions when we go out. when ii say we, i am calling myself out first. standing in the corner of the club and acting cool and mysterious is so overrated. i noticed that the times i would goof off and just dance like literally no one is watching, i felt my best self. and there were times i didn't even drink, and felt amazing, drunk off vibes.
if nothing else, here's a video that has been my mood booster since high school, a silly mash up to the song uptown funk (i know, i'm sorry) with a compilation of various blockbuster hits, and characters dancing along. i hope you feel just as possessed with the dancing plague as i am...
cocktails of the week include a cranberry/coconut margarita and spicy mango margarita

it was almost a perfectly fall day...

looks of the week

during these past few months of blogging and just utilizing my indyx app for styling random fits, some un-worn styled looks stay in my app. i finally decided to challenge myself and wear a few random styled looks. the inspiration varies. some are from most recent blog entries, like myscene. some are looks from my diaries i sketched years ago. some are inspired by my mom, and some even from tiktok icon libby mae. this was a week full of new hair accessory choices, and a win for my pale pink converse.

sunday night i did not bgin the challenge, and it was pool afternoon so i wore a cottagecore dress, bikini and flip flops.

monday for work, i found inspiration from an ancient photo of my darling old self. black graphic tee, dark wash jeans, and graphic shoes. for work i chose a work t shirt, black calvin klein straight leg jeans, and swapped the bag for my work bag. the shoes i kept the same.

tuesday  i continued playing it safe for work, drawing inspiration from my mom's birthday look from a couple years ago. she wears a white graphic tee with dark pants. no shoes are visible so i just styled the first shoes that matched at the time. i wore an elton john t shirt this time, i.am.gia black cargo pants, and not pictured were white loafers.

wednesday i finally stepped out the comfort zone and tried something a bit bolder. bratz tokyo a go go, this particular doll i owned when i was a child. had to adjust for work setting. instead of the crop top i wore a laced tank, same mesh blouse, switched the jeans but same vibe, instead of skirt i wore a scarf as a belt, and swapped the bag for my work bag obviously. i was really excited how it turned out. unfortunately, no photos of myself were taken. long day at work.

wednesday at the library i wore a recent myscene look. the blouse in the initial styling actually has a mystery stain that won't come off, and i finally parted ways with the black sandals. so i toned the look down for something über-casual. mini shorts, flip flops and baggy cotton blouse. added some accessories. barbie originally has a skirt, but i was feeling lazy.

thursday for work i pulled an interesting libby mae look. i think i did a better job with the newer styling than the initial one. i borrowed sib's peach colored top, and her off-white headband, and instead of sandal heels for work, i wore my pink converse. i think i wore these shoes more this week than ever before. i think i managed to make this look good.

thursday afternoon sib and i had to go grocery shopping and i still wanted to maintain the challenge. i found a throwback look which is super simple, black graphic tee and denim shorts. i even recreated whatever kind of bun my old self had back in 2012. added sunglasses, tote bags and birkenstocks too.

for my drive-in movie look, i went full archival. this is an entry from my old diary from like 5th grade (???), with a drawing of what should be myself in a "super cool outfit". graphic tee, some wrap around cardigan, flower crown (?) and a clutch purse... for the drive-in movie i found a different poncho than initially styled on indyx, a black graphic tee instead of a white one, and some baggy jeans. i didn't wear a clutch purse, but rather a smaller cross-body for the convenience, and instead of flower crown or whatever, i wore a headband.

friday for our bonfire and walk with bestie victoria i wore a bratz karate inspired look, only adding a tank top and sneakers because there's no way i'm taking a daily walk in flip flops.

saturday sib and i wanted to go last minute shoe-shopping for the wedding we had that evening, and i wore another myscene look. just swapped the heels for sandals. i really liked this outfit. felt so inspired we listened to early 2000s teen pop the whole time and went to the mall to feel like a 2000s teen.

i paused with the challenge saturday night for the wedding and wore a colorful maxi skirt, asos black heels and mauve bucket purse. myhair was supposed to resemble an almost-beehive or something 60s related, nevertheless lots of product was used but i still liked it.

sunday boyfriend and i got lunch and i wore this throwback look, only swapping the jeans.

finally, sunday afternoon's walk did was not a dress up challenge as no looks left were appropriate for a walk. so, i wore black biker shorts, purple top, and skechers.

what am i looking forward to this week?

i got really excited after this dress up game i made up, and i remembered my old deck of fashion oracle cards laying around the house. more challenges to come this week...
this week is pretty busy with work, which is fine because the end of july will be a long report. i'll make sure i dance through the stress of it all...
