7-27-2025 MY FAVES: like a tween again

Image
books of the week i'm a few chapters from completing  midnight sun  - and i got to see edward's perspective on some iconic quotes:  " as if you could outrun me " and " you're like my personal brand of heroin ". this week is a week to celebrate the tween indulgences, cute vampire vs werewolves and such. spoiler alert: if you're hoping for lots of jacob content, there's very minimal in this book.  music of the week it's one direction 's 15-year anniversary of becoming the boyband  of our times. here we are - most of us fans grown up and lost a member last fall. drama, fights, girlfriends, and new music - but no reunion in sight.  indulge with me in this  playlist  with songs old and new, solos and hidden gems. my fave was louis  - who was your's? there were two genders on repeat this week in my orbit of discovery: irish punk bands   and balkan pop princesses . irish bands kneecap  and fontaines dc  have been talked ab...

7-27-2025 MY INSPO: unsung fashion heroes

Image
last week, i was scrolling mindlessly when a croatian facebook page posted a photo of remembrance for žu ži jelinek  a croatian/hungarian fashion designer, columnist, and sex guru - as it was her birthday on the 17th. basically, the first carrie bradshaw. as a child i was interested in tabloids, and adult pop culture stuff, and i always wanted to read fashion magazines at cousins' homes, etc.  žu ži was frequently on tv, and was an old lady at the time, but still controversial. in later history and during the time i heard of her, she was known to be an expert on relationships, sex, and had a column not much different than what carrie bradshaw would have - in the magazine gloria  - where she was also an editor. my mom never bought fashion magazines but would occasionally watch tabloid shows. she was never a fan of  žu ži.  seeing the name  žu ži years later, almost 10 years after her passing, i realized, i didn't know nearly enough about this woman, b...

7-27-2025 MY WEEK: i dare you...

Image
it was truly a daring week - from challenging ourselves to afternoon local hikes, utilizing my fashion oracle cards (unsuccessfully, but i might try again soon), to sib and i taking our first ever salsa class .  sib and i visited brandywine falls , hogback ridge park , and hidden valley park  after work over the week, and for a busy work week i had, it was a healthy way of decompressing and debriefing. we have camp week at work - hence why i was struggling with oracle cards. functionality and avant garde did not go hand in hand this time.  brandywine falls hidden valley park hogback ridge park besides ohio's mystical parks, sib and i ventured the erie coastline, and enjoyed visiting the quaint and underrated beauties - fairport harbor  and  ashtabula harbor . i often crave for beaches and harbors, having spent most of my teen summers there, and i miss the scenery often. lake erie is not waters i would necessarily tread, but getting ice cream or lunch by the wate...

7-20-2025 MY WEEK: the art of dance and dress up games

Image
this week, i drape myself mostly in swimwear to lounge on bitten pool noodles and take naps in the sun, by our pool. therapy during the work days.  briefly mentioned in my faves entry  this week was our visit to the drive-in movies, where we watched dirty dancing and grease . the atmosphere couldn't have been better, and the number of snacks we ate couldn't have been larger. but it did inspire us to tap into the dancer in us.  i love to dance. i am not good at dancing, but with a good group and a drink or two, i become shameless. sib and i are looking into taking dance lessons, because we as a society have stopped dancing - well, or even at all. is society too worried about how we will be perceived that even silly dancing became taboo? if the recession is coming back, we at least need to bring back dancing - it's all we have left. dancing costs us nothing.  funny enough, we had a bonfire on friday, and bestie victoria was mentioning how she went to a ballroom ...

7-20-2025 MY INSPO: close ties, what's in my pool bag, and another app discovery

Image
this week, boyfriend is on a hunt for a designer tie . one of many reasons why we are my favorite couple in the world, is that we both share a love for eccentric fashion, vintage relics (be it antiques or clothing), and rarities. we always joke that our future home will probably look like a museum (an excuse for hoarding whatever collectibles and bizarre items we thrift along the years).  i figured i'd share his finds with the world, and i will be searching some too. girlfriend of the year over here! y'all better not bid against my boo!

7-20-2025 MY FAVES: classical crossover

Image
books of the week i'm continuing the twilight saga  journey through edward's eyes in midnight sun . i continue to ask myself, is this trying to justify edward, to humanize him and have the reader sympathize with him? not sure what team you're on, i just remember that during eclipse  - a lot of emotions rose, and i think, since that book, i've been team jacob . nevertheless, the book is engaging, and poetic.  music of the week last week i shared with you paul schwartz , the composer i discovered while roaming through marc's. i was perplexed, i couldn't identify what kind of genre this kind of music would fall into? it's like a nokia commerical, modern meets classical... it reminded me of a croatian pianist - maksim mrvica  - and in some ways, like 2cellos , a cello duo also from croatia. the mentioned artists blend classical elements, and even classical historical songs with modern beats. there's something so 2000s nostalgic and futuristic. kind of like...

7-13-2025 MY INSPO: reports from the runways and streets of europe

Image
per my vogue notifications of last couple weeks, menswear weeks and couture weeks in europe were happening full swing, and streetwear works were documented thoroughly. i report back dutifully with some of my favorist shows and looks. in milan , giorgio armani's menswear spring/summer 2026  had a gentle color palette with a vibrant purple dominating. slouchy knit shirts, and flowy trousers, with simple crossbody bags., as well as oversized polo tops gave me ideas to dress up boyfriend someday. this is something i could enjoy wearing at work,  myself . also, happy belated birthday to mr. armani, who turned 91 two days ago! these looks present a love letter for the 90s, for the coming generations that didn't have the opportunity to experience the american gigolo era of menswear, but with advice from mr armani: " each of us should look for our own signature. maybe we can start by evoking the work of a designer we admire, a little like what happened in the tradition of art i...

7-13-2025 MY WEEK: in the bleak midsummer

Image
we're halfway through the summer season. it could be just a week where i was struggling with recovering from a massive hangover, and the fact sib and i had to go to a family friend's wake, but my outfits seemed pretty bleak? going to yoga with bestie victoria, and meeting up with an old friend from my community college days, and spending 5 hours at the coffee shop catching up (we haven't seen each other in 5 years), helped boost back my joie de vivre. and, of course a post-wake thrift run to find something denim/overall for my upcoming vermont trip (the looks are pending, keep an eye out in a couple weeks for a report on that!). a "vintage" gap denim dress, perfectly fitted and just the pefrect denim feel. i had something of the sorts when i was a kid, and y'all know me too well - anything nostalgic for the child within me. she's so spoiled. sib, though, was immensely lucky in the shoe aisle, where she go two glamourous pairs - in brand new conditions. l...
