7-13-2025 MY FAVES: a study on the kennedys

Image
books of the week   i continue to patiently await the arrival of the next book in the it girl  series, but one cannot wait too long, so this week, in proper patriotic fashion (leftover from last week's fourth of july celebration), i decided to tap into the next books on my shelf, and i believe nothing ties americana  with fashion more than jackie kennedy .  i read jackie: the clothes of camelot , a style analysis of jackie's fashion from the white house days, as well as her later years - when she turned into jackie o , and defined 70s and 80s sophistication with amazing sleek wardrobe choices. a unique and honest fashion, something so natural one can only try and replicate through cheap trends and dupes. it was enjoyable to learn more about jackie, years ago i read all about marilyn, and it would only be fair to give the queen of usa her flowers.  as if one book wasn't enough, i continued the path with another book from my collection, a huge coffee table bo...

7-6-2025 MY FAVES: female trouble

books of the week it was a week to celebrate the brats, it girls, and icons. and you'll see that with all media i consumed.  i read reckless , book #3 in the gossip girl spinoff the it girl . we're following jenny and her boarding school bitches through the trials and tribulations of spoiled teenagehood and confusing teen love.  currently i'm on hold for book #4 - unforgettable. while on hold, i am reading  jackie  - the clothes of camelot  - a coffee table book on jackie kennedy's style through her white house days, and after. i got this book at a book sale a while ago, and i was always a lee radziwill style fan, but there's something so chic about jackie o's white pants, giant sunglasses of the 70s. new style icon unlocked. and every summer, i get into a kennedy obsession! i was a lucky girl at the coffee shop the other day. they had a mini library and i audibly gasped when i discovered midnight sun , the newest book of the twilight series, just waiting...

7-6-2025 MY WEEK: red, white, blue in the sky...

Image
ever since i've moved back to this country, i am reminded of how bitter it feels to enjoy fireworks and hot dogs in the name of freedom, when every summer, the news sounds nightmarish. i'd like to think that celebration can be hopeful too, not always ignorant. i may enjoy a saucy hot dog and watch boyfriend shoot off fireworks, but i don't forget those who were victimized by this regime. so much of our youth is extremely radicalized and hoping and wanting to change the world for the better, and that's the america i am still searching for. i see the hope for better future in my friends, with whom i got to celebrate by the pool. i see it in the all-american backyard surrounded by people who hold no prejudice, only are happy to listen to sublime on full blast, and enjoy good tequila and burgers, and rounds of volleyball in the dark. i see it in the diverse crowd of young and old, enjoying the  various colorful fireworks around town. i see the hope in the individuals i se...

felt digitally analog , boyfriend got me a cd player/alarm clock that's basically brand new, but totally feels like waking up in 2011. appropriately, i put in my one direction up all night  album, and when the first notes of what makes you beautiful  woke me up last week, i was almost sure i transported to the last week of 7th grade.  i'm a slut for physical media, i don't discriminate. i got a collection of vinyls, mostly second-hand or vintage. up until last year, i had a very chic and sleek honda accord from 2007, that only had a cd player. my power outlet for the phone adapter fucked up and i never felt like fixing it. so i've accumulated a plethora of cd's. not to mention my complete one direction discography collected from many birthdays ago by my best mother, a burnt lady gaga the fame monster cd, and a lot of early 5sos ep's .  i was determined - this is the only way to wake up - i mean, literally rise and shine. so i went on a hunt for a cd rack ...

6-29-2025 MY FAVES: croatian rap: a genre slept on in the diaspora

Image
music of the week lot's of discussion was held this past week, between sib and i, about croatian music and what's listened to in our diaspora community. you've got your classics, in croatia labeled "trash" aka standard mainstream: thompson, severina, magazin, many more. this is entry level croatian music. you were born into the community simply knowing these songs by default. it's to the point that boyfriend (non-croatian) recognizes some songs. but croatian rap is still slept on. if you don't count the rap songs that are soccer fan songs. and maybe kuku$ - that was briefly popular across the pond.  my duty is to educate my people. here's some old rap classics  and newer finds from my days of growing up in cro and digging through the more obscure charts. be  alert, many of these songs highly misogynistic and still never get skipped when they come on shuffle. fil tilen - debela pare di su - 2late 7 ujutro - hiljson mandela ganga i rera - peki, vojko v...
