6-29-2025 MY FAVES: croatian rap: a genre slept on in the diaspora

Image
music of the week lot's of discussion was held this past week, between sib and i, about croatian music and what's listened to in our diaspora community. you've got your classics, in croatia labeled "trash" aka standard mainstream: thompson, severina, magazin, many more. this is entry level croatian music. you were born into the community simply knowing these songs by default. it's to the point that boyfriend (non-croatian) recognizes some songs. but croatian rap is still slept on. if you don't count the rap songs that are soccer fan songs. and maybe kuku$ - that was briefly popular across the pond.  my duty is to educate my people. here's some old rap classics  and newer finds from my days of growing up in cro and digging through the more obscure charts. be  alert, many of these songs highly misogynistic and still never get skipped when they come on shuffle. fil tilen - debela pare di su - 2late 7 ujutro - hiljson mandela ganga i rera - peki, vojko v...

6-29-2025 MY WEEK: ending june on a high note

Image
happy monday to all, and happy end of june ! time flies when you're having fun. this summer may not be spent on the adriatic coast, but lazy pool weekdays, arcade birthdays, and baseball debacles sure make the midwest feel like vacation even without pto. here's a quick cocktail list of last week: made myself a blended pineapple margarita with leftover ripe pineapples. wow, this is perhaps the best cocktail i've made so far. i bought tajin and chamoy a few days later because there's going to be more experimenting. hazed and confused  from 16-bit: gin, lavender, basil and lemon. thank you bestie vicki s for this recommendation.  finally, a blue hawaiian  slushie at the guardians baseball game to quench the heat from our fancy club seats. thank you to my work friend for taking me with. the mediocre buffet was a great cure for hangover and great start of another drinking day. no imperfections in this buttery color of blended pineapple. picture doesn't do justice, you w...

6-29-2025 MY INSPO: my summer survival kit

Image
ohio entered the official 'hell' part of summer time, and we're battling heat waves, humidity, and headaches. i grew up in a place where summers are brutally hot, not as humid at all - quite the contrary - we had severe droughts and wildfires.  going from one summer extreme to another, and not to mention i never  lived in a place with perfect air conditioning.  so i am here to provide you my extreme summer survival guide. 1. always equip yourself with ice cream ice cream is my favorite snack. growing up we had a rule it was strictly a summer snack, but now i deviate and will treat myself frequently with an icy-cool snack. one ice cream a day will actually help in maintaining a cool equilibrium - scientifically proven by me, and maybe ben and jerry. my recommendation? the two dudes ben and jerry are my sweetest couple. i don't discriminate though, and will always prefer a local creamery any day. 2. bikini's are clothes too there is no need to elaborate fits in the ...

6-22-2025 MY FAVES: high end living, and eastward tones

Image
books of the week i finally  read great tales of horror . beside the blatant racism, the fantastical elements and lore were super interesting.  i read my vogue adria living   edition sib brought back for me from cro, and indulge in the luxury of hotel resorts and incredibly beautiful and incredibly expensive home decorations. different tax bracket here, but it was sweet to read an article on the art of olive picking. something i grew up with considering far from luxurious, but the end result always was a lusciously goldish elixir. how charming to know i plan to be there for my parents' farm this fall myself!   my new by-the-pool read is notorious , book #2 in the gossip girl spin off called the it girl , which follows adventures of jenny humphrey in boarding school. i read most of the gossip girl series books and they area bit problematic, sexist, and at times, inconsistent. then again, there's charm in the flawed teen character. i found some of the ...
